Black Rock Canyon is a short trail, but it is my most favorite to date.

The route I took starts right at the turnoff to the big parking lot at the south end of the park. The road heads south along side the highway back to the bridge. Then it heads east. If you follow the road east, it will hit the gate to Nightmare Gulch. Shortly before the gate, the first trail heads north. This is the Iron Canyon trail. The Iron Canyon trail meets up with Black Rock Canyon trail where the two can be accessed by a small cutoff to the highway. At the end of Black Rock Canyon trail, you can go northwest up Opal Canyon trail back to the highway, or out Joshua East and on toward Cudahy Camp and the old Dutch Cleanser Mines, Last Chance Canyon and beyond to Burro Schmitt Tunnel.
