I own a 2016 Tundra TRD PRO. I have just over 19000 miles on it and noticed a small oil leak. I had it in at the beginning of the month and they replaced my rear main seal. 2 weeks later it's already leaking. I usually don't get that upset and the service manager has been very good to me but this pisses me off and the fact that I had it in before all this happened and they claimed they never saw anything to worry about just means I'll be bringing it in for a 3rd time for the same issue.. I live 90 miles from the dealership and use my truck daily for towing. I've had it barely over a year and it will have spent almost 3 weeks in the shop for this same issue and all I get for a loaner is a little rav4.
1)Does anyone know what could be causing this leak?
2)I'm frustrated with the fact that I bought a $50000 truck and I use it as a truck every day and all I get is a little rav4 and I can't tow anything (as I use it for work). Is it possible to get them to let me use a truck/suv so that I can get by while they have my truck for what will be the 3rd time?

I would get a truck. Ask for a truck....or maybe they can pay for a rental company truck bill.

From what I heard its premier customers who get platinums for rentals. Not sure how true it is, but being you bought a truck I the same price range maybe you fall under that status I'd ask if I were you Toyota from what I learned is very cheap but I love their trucks

Sounds like there is an imperfection on the surface the seal rides or possibly a machined surface is off. Shouldn't have happened twice.

Ask for a truck. I was out a vehicle while I was waiting for my PRO to be delivered and my dealer set me up with a 2015 Trd OR to drive until my truck arrived. IMG_4326.jpg

New member, just found this same problem on my 14' with only 36k miles on it. OP Has this been fixed? I'm feeling pretty disgusted that this truck is less than 4 years old, less than 40k miles and has an oil leak. Quite frankly this is the last thing I would expect from Toyota on a powertrain thats 10yrs old. Very disappointing, I expect this from the big 3 with such low miles.

Had the same issue with my 2015. The dealer pulled the trans, they had to tap down the dowel pins in order to get the rear main seal to set flat. There was an issue with the person installing the dowel pins not seating them all the way. It was corrected the first time by my dealer. But I was not happy as the truck had all of 2000 miles on it at the time.

Sure it should be covered but then it's like taking the girl back that cheated on you, you'll never trust her again. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. This is the predicament I was trying to avoid with a Tundra, maybe I was mistaken. Is a cam tower leak closey behind? Love my truck but man, I feel like i drank way too much of the QDR koolaid.

the way I see it, all trucks will have issues. It's how they handle it.

Maybe try a different brand seal.

Leak is most likely coming from the cam seals... it leaks down the cam housing and down past rear main area as well as dripping onto exhaust heat shields. Common issue in Tundras though many dealerships avoid the job as it can be daunting if they do not lift the Cab off the frame to perform the work.

A seasoned tech can do this job in an 8 hour shift.

The leak is caused by poor installation. Liquid gasket seals the cam tower to the block and if the block is slid while being set in place you can have a lack of sealer.

When the vehicle is on a lift look up towards the engine following the exhaust (look at the heat shields on the manifold to see if there is any burnt oil) there is an ear that sticks off of the block check for drips of oil hanging off it as this is a clear sign that you are effected by the above conditions.
