Oldschool Snap-on toolbox...looking for info

Was helping clean out a shed after the hurricane ripped it apart and was given this old toolbox as a gift.

Any tips on how to go about restoring it?

Also curious how old it might be if anyone has one to compare it to. Found this stamp on the back, possibly a 68 model?

 

Hose it off and sponge clean it like a vehicle. Let it dry and then spray it down with Fluid film and wipe it down. White grease on the ball bearings if thats whats there.

 

You could contact SnapOn and with the #'s on it I'm sure they can tell you the year.

 

Production from 1962 to 1967, I have no idea if its worth anything but they are cool to redo. I did an old MAC box a few years ago.

 

Nice find, personally I love the patina on it. I'd say wash it down with car wash soap/sponge, lube the drawer slides with white lithium grease, leave it as is. Maybe fabricate a shelf or two for the lower section, metal if you are handy with that, plywood would also work, I wouldn't bother with that lower door unless you can easily fix it.

Maybe put some new casters on it as well if those are trashed.

in good condition it just seems to be missing whatever locks it shut so I put it inside until I can take a better look. Probably going to follow the advise of you and the others who suggested a simple cleaning / protectant and leaving as is rather than doing a full restore.

 

Unused to sell the Stanley - Craftsman- and Husky boxes. You should be able to order new sliders and wheels... sometimes they just ship them out for free.
