I like the way you tinker and make your own stuff that comes out looking great. I like the way you give yourself options, being able to move things like rear lights around. Now you need onboard air. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Thanks Warren! Already working on air, but you probably know it has to be different... 35” tires are next, just gotta kill my R/Ts. What I’m trying to come up with is regular cab short bed.:mudding:
Thanks! In that picture it is exactly 2 7/8” front, 1 3/4” rear, very happy with it.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean they were junk and in what way are the plastic ones better?

I am so jealous of you west coast guys with your pristine, rust free underpinnings and awesome places to offroad and explore. Mind you not jealous enough to move out that way but man it must be nice.

They weren’t junk, the chrome caps rub the valance under moderate off road use, so I removed before damage occurred. There was also some frustration with the painting process. I’m originally from the east coast, could never move back, so much more to do if you are active outdoors. This is 5 miles from me, hike up and watch the sunrise whenever possible.

That is an awesome view. My soon to be wife is a born and raised SoCal/Desert girl and she'd love to move back out west but I'm just too settled here. There are some really nice aspects of living out west but all things considered, I'm happy here and have no desire to move.

We have a lot of great outdoor stuff here too. Its just different environment and weather. Lots of forests and woods (which I prefer) but lots of humidity in the summer (which I hate) and cold in the winter (which I don't mind).

4 wheeling trails are not near as plentiful around here and most of the ones that do exist are better suited to smaller vehicles like a jeep or my 4Runner.

I do appreciate all the great off road pics you all post!

I'm thinkin I may have to do something along the lines you did with the rear leaves, either the Wheelers one or the Deaver F85 pack. The damn overload springs make the rear end bounce like crazy on these crappy CO highways, though the aftermarket shackle and poly bushings do seem to have helped some.

Great truck. I see the title and almost always click on it expecting to see some engine machining pictures. LOL.

The deaver F85 is sold by a few places under different names and prices... I really like them so far, not smashing on the overload made a huge difference. Gonna go beat it in the desert in a few weeks, will report back with honest feedback after.
Thanks!, unfortunately you may get to see some engine build pics.

Had truck a year, knocking on 3k miles.
    8C0EAE89-D021-4C44-B045-1266D461FC11.jpg
Rear main seeps, and passenger cam tower is leaking. FML. My 16 crapped out both cam towers at 3k, and my dealer in CO completely screwed it up, so much so when they shit themselves again in 5k, the correct course was to ship back and let them clean up their mess. Those morons would never get it right, there is a narrow time frame to set the cam tower on the sealant, one time shot you can’t pick up and reset if wrong, and you could see that’s what happened. Didn’t have coolant in it when picked up, bolts falling out randomly, and the master tech didn’t understand you cannot assemble an engine with his cordless impact driver in lieu of a torque wrench, literally an idiot. Sorry bitter about that. Really like this truck, and I’ve been building engines my whole life, some nasty ones:cool:, and I might just fix myself. Pull, disassemble, balance rotating assembly, maybe clean up the heads a little if realistic, and reseal it.

I'm not surprised by that, kinda wondered if them and the Wheelers pack were the same thing but the pics are completely different. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I know back to back trucks with cam tower failures at 3k, the 16 was undrivable it was leaking so bad. Hoping the 18 just keeps seeping and I can ignore it till January.

    Dang, that really sucks.

Where is that "the cam tower leak isn't a real issue" crowd?

    That really sucks, man.

I've only built 2 engines in my life - it is something that I really enjoy and would love to get back into. I am actually starting to do some research for a future project I am planning involving a 70's Ford pickup and possibly a 460 (although my last engine build was a Ford 400 - that thing was some serious low-end fun - maybe I will replicate that again). Anyway, maybe I'll ping some ideas off of you if you have any experience with the Fords and see what you think.

Give me a couple days, cleaned it all up yesterday.
I bleed blue, almost named my firstborn Ford. Nice on building a 400M, most people don’t know what they are. My bil has the cleanest 72 Ford Highboy I believe exists. Has a nasty 390 in it. Got into diesels, this was my favorite. First pull over 500hp for it, 511hp. Watch at the end when the headgaskets blow, bye bye $4,500. Ended up over 600hp, ran 13.1 quarter mile very consistently(beginning to see my luck, never a 12.99), but big fun. It was over 7,000 lbs.. Ping ideas off me anytime my friend, I might not know, but probably know who will.

That is awesome! My family got ripped apart when I was young, and literally have nothing but memories. I am righting that for my kids hopefully. This is where it started for me, bought at 17, earned the name Timex.

@zcarpenter92 The wheelers pack I have is sold for Tacoma and First gen Tundra. Their 07+ looks a bit like the Icon expansion pack, and needs the overload.

Ugh... Trying to find a common denominator, minimal use 3-5k miles a year, always change oil around 200 miles when new. Neither adds up. I will say this, look under every Tundra I can, more than half leak, most are probably ignored and non issue. I was told years ago it is the way they stack the cam tower during production, ones on bottom warp under weight, might be bs. That’s why I want to pull it apart myself, Toyota won’t check the head deck and tower for flatness, they should, has everything to do with that type of seal.
Yeah I was gonna buy another today, they went up to $67 last time I looked. Death Valley for the SGU Friendsgiving is the next trip.
