You’re walking into your local grocery store. It’s 8pm. You’re in an affluent area. As you approach the sliding doors, you see a halfway folded up $100 bill outside of the door.

    What do you do?

No managers working. Service counter closed. Mostly a bunch of kids working.

I would give whoever was on duty my phone number, if someone came up to them saying they lost $100 they could call me and I'd give it back. If no call I'd keep it I guess.
If they could watch video and find out who lost it then I'd try to find them in the store or find what car they went into.
Giving it to some cashier or whoever wouldn't likely be helpful.

This is basically what I did. When I got done shopping, I called the store from my truck and left my number. This obviously doesn’t keep the kid who answered from calling me and saying it’s his.

Too big of a store with too many people to easily track down whoever lost it.

I’m a dick, but when it comes to this stuff, I can’t take it without at least saying I tried to give it back.

My kid found several hundred dollars blowing in the wind at her old school playground.

We left a message at the office, and asked how much they lost.

We never got a call back, and my kids bank account went up. Kinda sucked she couldn’t have grabbed all the money outside the fence.

Still makes me wonder why all they money was blowing in the wind. Her school was in a rather wealthy neighborhood, but damn.

When I was about 12 I found a wallet full of cash, no idea how much. I was riding my bike while spending time with my grandparents.
I took it to them and they found out who's ot was. Ended up being a local cop, he gave me $100 and myself, brother, and cousin a ride to the local bike shop in his cruiser and got us some bike locks. Karma is good, when I was 16 I left my wallet at walmart, an off duty cop found it and drove it to my house.

I found a dime in the parking lot at work a couple weeks ago. I shoved it in my pocket without hesitation, and forgot all about it until now. I won't sleep tonite.

This practically happened at a coffee shop about 3 weeks ago. Except it was $80 and I knew who dropped it. I did the right thing.

I ordered a cup of coffee and gave the girl at the counter a $75 tip and introduced myself. Been getting free coffee ever since.

    Flux capacitor!
I’ve returned several lost wallets in my lifetime. I had one of my clients forget they had a stack of 100s left out worth a good 40k plus during a kitchen remodel. When I told the owners wife she said “I forgot to put that in the safe”. I’m a believer in Karma and doing the right thing.
