When I was a kid we used to make it to Big Bend every year. Love that country. We used go stay in a state park near Ft Davis. Got to get back there some day.

i go 3 times a year, 2 X on my bike and 1X in Tundra or Jeep. Lot's of good off road fun. Unfortunately I only tent camp in the Chiso Mountains (in the middle of the park). It is elevated and quite a bit cooler than the park basin.
A couple of hints about the park:
    1. Obey the speed limit. it is hard b/c it is like 45 MPH, and you wont see a car for several miles - but they will give you a ticket!
    2. Go to Boquillas, Mx - bring your passport and cross to Mx from within the park. You take a rowboat across the river then ride a horse or take a truck to the villiage of Boquillas. It is a 10 minute horseback ride. Dont take a weapon, DONT TAKE AMMO (even a loose round in your pocket). Boquillas is a geat tiny mexican village that has a fantastic bar- Falcon's. If you go, tell Lilian Bryan Lane says Hello!
    3. If you are staying overnight on the way down, stay in Marathon, TX. A great place there for cheap.
PM me if you want more info, my son is going to school down there studying to be a Tx. Game Warden. I have a ton of info.

My son and I went for the first time couple years ago and loved it. We off-roaded a few easy trails, more like dirt roads, but I hear there are a few trails trails that have some difficult parts. The locals claim the State-owned park has harder trails, but we didn’t go there.

I went a couple of years ago. Skipped stones across the river into Mexico. The hikes were cool too. Spent the night at Alpine. Nice little town

Yes the state park trails are a lot more challenging. Old ore road and black gap are fun roads in the national park tho.

I go to BB at least 6 times a year. Almost bought 60 acres in Terlingua before seller backed out. That’s my area man. Love it

Yes every time in the back country. Roy’s peak , willow tank off old ore road are some good spots. And Twisted shoe, Robbers Roost are excellent off glen springs road.

Do you ever have issues with close neighbors? I'm trying to get away from the noise and bright lights. My wife loves to do stargazing.

I just got back with my family from spring break in BBNP. That place is unbelievable. If you are going, make sure you find Mariscal Mine and Luna's Jacal. Both are at the end of really scenic off road (semi maintained dirt road) drives. None of the off road locations here were a problem for the truck, but they were super fun.

Been on my places to visit for so long, I haven't quite made it out there. I buy every vehicle with going on trails in big bend in mind. That's why the wife has 4-runner TRD off road
