SDHQ sliders require moving gas tank?

So, I just received my SDHQ sliders for my 19 TRD Pro, which has yet to arrive. They look awesome. Looking over the instructions, I noticed that the gas tank has to be moved a little bit to finish the installation.....are you kidding me??? Is it possible to install without doing this? It seems like a big PITA. Any help/ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Gas tank will need to be moved for the 2 rear mounting points on the drivers side. My solution is to find a local welder, willing to make a quick 40 or 50 bucks. Mount it all up, then have them weld yhe last 2 brackets.

Install is a PITA but worth it. I think the best point of these is that they're bolt on (so I wouldn't mess that up by welding).

A helpful hint is, run your tank almost empty. (Remember, the gas pump is submerged so when the gauge reads "0" miles to empty, there's still 6-8 gallons in there.) So run it down to empty.

You don't have to remove the tank, don't disconnect any of the fuel lines-- you just have to remove the cheap-ass plastic gas tank skid, then loosen (but DON'T REMOVE) the straps that secure the tank under the truck. The near-empty (lighter) tank and the ability to shift it toward the center of the truck to wedge in those bolts, will make it work.

That said, the rear bolt of my SDHQ sliders doesn't line up with a bolt hole, and no one at s dhq answered during posted Saturday hours, so I never attached the rear bolt. Let me know if you get that last one in, how you do it.

    Great.
Thank you. I'll see what I can do when my truck comes in.

key point as stated... Gas tank nearly empty. I attempted it when it was nearly full... F that... 2.5 hours of trying, and gave up. Later in the week, almost empty tank, boom, that thing will easily shift and give you the room you need....

Put a jack under the gas tank with some plywood to support the tank. Think I had about half a tank of gas and I was good. It will also be very helpful to jack the sliders up to fit around the frame. It's a very tight fit. Also if you have a double cab you will find that the rear body mount will get in the way of the last bolt on the passenger side. I had to round the bolt hole some to get the bolt in. If you are installing them yourself have some jack stands hold the sliders up for you. It was very useful when I installed mine. Once you got the sliders over your frame it's not coming off without a lot of force. Then you can bolt them in.

I was able to install them and get all the bolts in without moving the tank or loosening it at all. It was a PITA, but it was possible. The instructions that I had also did not mention moving the gas tank so maybe they updated the instructions to make it a bit easier???

Even with the gas tank almost empty it was a tota PITA. Just drain it to as low as you can get it. At one point I remember just laying there on the ground under the truck after an hour and almost saying F it.

Use some jacks like others have said. Once it’s done it’ll be worth it.

I think the rear-most bolts being blocked from the holes by truck frame might be a DC thing-- I think it must go easier on a CM.... :notsure:

Like other have said, install is a PITA. But they're awesome once it's done.

Yeah it's a double cab thing. I looked at my parents crew max and it's wide open for the rear bolt for the sliders. Double cab lines right up to the body mount. It's doable, but just a pain to have an extra step to make the hole bigger.

Hey if you don’t weld on slider is it still a safe jacking/ pulling point to some extent?

SDHQ's will support the truck for lifting. Had to use them this way 2 times on the trial for flats. Not sure about pulling.

I’m sure then it would be ok for some light tugs. Obv not anything crazy. Just checking.

Anyone with these sliders have pictures of this area and this concern? Just curious how tight of a fit that this is.

Not sure which 'area of concern' you're asking to see. Once you lower the tank a bit, still in the straps, there's no reason for concern on attachment, I guess, since yours is a CM. For those with a DC, there's no room to lineup the rear bolt on the driver's side to existing holes. This is the best I could do as far as a pic. The photo with the bolt shows it goes part way, then hits the frame/ mount.
    IMG_4789.jpg
    IMG_4790.jpg

I did not drill. Once installed, the sliders "cup" the frame securely. So placing the weight of the truck down on them, pushes the slider against the frame, not away from it. The only weight applied downward is my son using the slider as a step, but that's about 90# for 2 seconds, and well forward of the missing bolt.

I installed mine without removing the tank. Just pulled the plastic shield off. SDHQ made it possible by supplying some ‘custom’ nuts with handles. Haha.

I was wondering how wide at the narrowest and both widest points the SDHQ sliders stick out? I love these but also would like to make sure they’d function good for the wife and kid to use while getting into the truck. Pictures from the side and top would be great if you have any.
