I have a 13 tundra crewmax with the 5.7 flex fuel.running 305/55/20's 3/1 lift with tonneu cover.getting 13.5- 14.3 mpg. Not bad but,the day I brought the truck home I got 17.1 mpg ? I don't know what they did or what kind of gas they used but I haven't been able to do it again. I've had the truck 6 months now?

For all of the people that said I was complaining and to live with it. here is what is wrong. ;)

It is in the shop right now Toyota is going to do the ECM update and reset all of the fuel curve and learn parameters. But reading 72% alcohol content in gasoline that is straight gas no ethanol is a problem. This is why this truck gets horrible gas mileage. When you figure out BTU loss and put the math to it it takes about 1.8 units of ethanol to equal 1 unit of gasoline. This thing is shoving pure gas in it as fast as it can drink it and it is not using it efficiently. Also the flex-fuel trucks have a 3-speed fuel pump so they can supercram fuel into the injection system when it reads a high content of ethanol.

We'll see how it improves once it's fixed. This truck should be able to get at least 12 miles per gallon . And if you do not see a 20% difference or so between ethanol and regular gas something is wrong with the truck. It's basic math.

And like I said I love the truck. And it is new to me. But if this new truck cannot get better gas mileage than my 1986 Ford F150 with bigger tires then yes I will sell it as fast as I can get it put up. There is no reason a new truck that is lighter smaller cannot get better gas mileage than truck is 30 years old. There's no reason. Hopefully they get it fixed. And then I'm heading to Texas tomorrow to have d. A. P. tuning tune it. :fingerscrossed:

Good luck I bet you it will be better once it’s updated. Please post an update after you drive around for a little bit. Fingers crossed. I bet you’re excited about that dap tune too! If you end up keeping the truck maybe re-gearing will make it even better.

Ok. I had Toyota update the computer to the newest version of software and he reset everything. He said if it was a person it wouldn't know its own name. I had ethanol in the truck I tried to run it dead empty I had about 2 gallons left. I just filled it up with fresh gas the alcohol readings are much better and I reset my average miles per gallon which I've done several times it has never read this hi. Hopefully it's better.

I'm going to tell you guys right now I do not recommend d a p tuning at this point. I was going to drive 400 miles out of my way to have them tune this truck at the tune of $400 to $700. I was going to fly to Houston instead I decided to drive and just take the tundra
by there and have it tuned. Per their operating business hours. I called somebody last week and it said it only takes about 15 minutes.

Talk to one of the guys at the shop today that knows nothing about it. Supposed to have the owner call me back or someone that knew something about tuning a tundra. Couldn't get a return phone call. I have been self-employed since 1997 and I have owned many retail businesses. If a customer is coming 400 miles to my business I think I would definitely call them back. He said the owner was pretty busy but, I've seen their building. They ain't too big to return a phone call. I have renntech in Florida tune all of my Mercedes amg cars and they are Huge. I can get a call back in a few minutes. And I have to ship my cars there to have them tuned.

Bad business, I will ship it to vivid racing in Arizona before I use these guys. I now have to drive to Houston instead of fly for no reason. pretty pissed off.

2 gals e85 + 24 gals e10 would be around e15 you are still reading 31% instead of 15%. I suggest you get techstream (do a search) and reset the sensor yourself.

    Good luck

I just tested the alcohol content again and it's dropped 23%. I bet I might have to get all that E85 out of there. Then we'll see what it does

If you buy a Trunda for MPG your in the wrong truck on my 4th one and I didn't buy them for gas mileage. I bought them because I love it and it's a Trundra! Use to be a hard core Chevy guy even had a lab named Chevy.

    Meh....

I just drove 1100 miles. New 1794 stock 5.7 (no ffv) engine, tonneau cover, no load, Bilstein level, Ridge Grappler 33’s, 87 octane, 95% highway miles @ 75mph: Averaged 15.4 mpg hand calc.

Did the same drive with my 2010 F150 and was getting about 18-19 6 months ago.

That should be added in the thread title. People see these threads and don't even read them, then make comments like that.
pholt, thank you for updating us on the outcome, it sounds like everything is getting back to "normal" with your truck. Stick around, this is actually a really good forum.
