Eight spoke wheels, cargo netting.

I have a 2012 Tundra and found a bunch of leaves & assorted road debris and mud, gravel, etc. at the base of the driver and passenger door jam where they meet at the front quarter panels.
Is this by design and common? If not how do I remedy this issue?
