That's one thing I missed coming from gm. Everything I've had since 1999 had them.

That said, all you need is a sensor and a new switch stalk. I put the sensor in the center speaker grill, had a mechanic pull the steering wheel and replace the stalk. I didnt want to mess with the airbag.

One of the best mods I've done .

Dumb question, my 04 you can just leave the lights on and they automatically turn on with the ignition and off when you shut down and open the drivers door. Do the newer trucks not do that?

I understand that's not automatic but it's cheaper than changing parts.

Current gens do that as well, but you'd have your lights on day and night.

    That's awesome!

I agree OP, it's quite pathetic.

My 14, if I leave the lights on and kill the ignition and remove the key, a beep goes of continuously until I turn them off.

Limited or better trims come with auto headlights.

You can always leave them on then when you get out of your truck press the lock button on the remote 2 times. The 2nd lock will turn the headlights off.

I forgot to mention, mine was prewired for the sensor. It's all plug and play. Check under your center speaker grill for wiring to the "dummy" sensor.

It's probably an SR5 thing, I have a 2015 and no auto headlights. I was quite surprised also. Seems like Toyota needs some catching up to do, not that anyone else recognizes that ;)

How about if you open the drivers door after the key is removed?

The headlights stay on regardless. Even after shutting and locking the doors (to include hitting the button twice).

Edit: (to include hitting the button twice).

This drove me crazy too, until I figured it out. There is a setting in the headunit that sets how long lights stay on after you turn off the ignition. Set that to 0 seconds and the lights will turn off the second you open the door and no more beeping. Default I think is 30 seconds or something and it will beep when you open the door until 30 seconds passes or you shut the lights off.
I keep my headlights always on, safer that way.

In the head unit? Is that a setting on the steering wheel?

No, it's in the radio. It's in settings>vehicle>customization>light settings
Then turn "headlamps auto-off timer" from 30s to off.
