I am thinking about buying a leftover 2018 Tundra Sport or a 19. I realize this is a toyota forum but I was also looking at F150. The rebates on the Ford amount to like 9 grand and the 5.0 10 speed does run fairly well. I had a Tundra years ago and the mpg was terrible. I remember I was lucky to get 12 mpg on that truck and looking around on this forum it doesn't seem to be much better. I realize it is a big truck and no V8 is going to get great mileage. I had a Ram with hemi that actually got 23 mpg on highway trip because of the cylinders shutting down on the highway from 8 to 4. Any input is appreciated as I am not really sure what I want to do. The 18 has 3K in rebates now and the 19 has a grand. I realize they are the same essentially, but I am thinking about coughing up the extra 2 to gain the new year.

Yep, not great gas mileage but the best in reliability. Shutting down cylinders just doesn't make sense to me.

Most stock Tundras in the 5.7 get 15-16mpgs. Don't get a Ford unless you're leasing it. And if you're going to lease it, don't get a Ford. :D

I have a 18 Sport. I looked at F-150 also - the 5.0 V8, not even thinking about the V6 ecoboosts. Tundra will be worse in the MPG department, but overall I selected the Tundra because of the reliability. I get a good solid 20 MPG at 60 MPH and maybe down to 18 MPG at 70+ MPH. In town it goes down to 12 or so depending on traffic. My average for city and highway is about 15, and I have compared with co-workers who drive Fords and Chevies, and they do not get much better. The Ecoboost guys who drive like grandpa get a little better, but as soon as you make them work a little it is the same as the V8s.
Domestic trucks also offer better rebates than Toyota because they have much more leftover 2018 inventory to move. It might be enticing if $$$ is the only factor, but for me the Toyota reputation was more important.

Thanks to everyone so far. I had an ecoboost and a 5.0 and the ecoboost was maybe worse than the v8 or the same in the f150. I didn't like the roaring sound of the turbo 6 either. I would much rather lose a few mpg and hear the v8 sound.

Well if I “had” to get a ford half ton it would definitely be the 5.0. Sounds like you go through trucks. How long would you plan on keeping it? If you’re going to get rid of it after the warranty is up anyways do whatever you want. But if you plan on keeping it definitely get the Toyota.

Going Ford might save you a few hundred dollars a year in gas, if your driving the average amount but with the amount of issues known to Fords, youll spend that money on one or two of their repairs.

I have a 2015 SR5 TRD DOUBLE CAB OFF ROAD with tow package. I get between 17 and 17.9 at 70 mph. I average 15.9 and 16.2 a tank unless I tow my camper. My son in-law gets 14.6 highway in his chevy 1500

I did like my new 1976 Bronco back in the day with the 302. Replaced my piece of crap 1975 F-150 4X with a 160hp 360 V8.
