Okay, so I bit the bullet and ordered the 5100's all the way around. Bought the rears off Amazon for a steal and then just found the front pair on ebay, shipped for $199.00. Bought a @Coachbuilder1 shim for each side up front. Gonna run them in the middle setting up front with the single shim. My fronts measure 36" from ground to wheel well and the rears are 39 and 39 1/4" ground to wheel well on level parking lot. I have watched and listened and read for weeks now and think this is the best set up for me and my use. I will post before and after pictures as I proceed.

This forum is amazing and I appreciate all the input and help.

Most of my order is here. Almost time. Front shocks should be here this week.

Post a pic of the truck when you're done. I have a Limited with the 20" wheels and am curious how it will look.

I have pretty much the same truck as you so I too will be curious to compare the before and after pics. One thing that's kept me from upgrading to 5100s and raising the front is that I tow a camper quite a bit and I don't want to end up with a Bro Lean. Thought about also adding air bags but that's just more $$.

We are looking to buy a camper next year. I will probably add airbags to the rear for this purpose or depending on weight add a block spacer or coachbuilder shackles. Cross that bridge when we get there. You could always upgrade and use the bottom or middle setting, then you get the best of both worlds. The shocks are suppose to be very good, part of why I went with them.

I plan to (eventually) go with 5100s at the mid setting and one shim on driver's side to even out the side lean. At almost 85k miles you're probably right - an upgrade would mean at minimum a better ride quality. I need to do some more measuring empty and loaded down with camper to see how much difference I have. With the WDH I visually look level.

You are almost exactly where I am at. I have 73,000 miles on my Platinum. It actually still rides very nice and the previous owner had a camper or trailer of some sort. I was gonna just do a leveling spacer up front, but said WTH at this point and gonna do the 5100's. I don't have any lean so I am doing a spacer on each side for a small amount of lift and to not put the springs under so much load.

The back can be raised with adjustable Toytec or set CB shackles and I use Timbrens to prevent bouncing squat when towing our TT. I remove the spacers when not towing so they never hit (no spacer):

Okay, so my front shocks should be delivered today.......finally. Took a picture from my driveway as a before. I will do before and after pictures when I actually do the work. Gonna try to do it this weekend, but have to see what is going on family wise.

Could you please elaborate on the Timbrens? Is there a thread on their use and install? What's the difference between Timbrens and air bags? What do they cost and what is this spacer that you speak of? Thanks!

    What’s your use?

AirBags are in constant contact between the leaf and frame so you feel them when not towing. They have adjustable psi depending on load/tongue weight, therefore adaptable and comfortable. They require inspection/maintenance, should be set to 5psi when not towing.

Timbrens are just giant rubber bumpstops. You remove the existing ones and put these in their place. They do not contact until you have towing squat. In day to day driving because the open space is narrow between the leaf and frame, when you hit a sizable bump/pothole, it’s an uncomfortable shudder. Since I’m 1.5” higher with shackles, they never hit on bumps. But when I tow, I raise the Timbren height by adding spacers so they work properly. The 3 or 4 times we go RV’ing, I’m jacking up the side and installing spacers, taking them off when we’re home. Basically I recommend them if you occasionally tow and have shackles. They cost less than AirBags. I’m not sure bags work with increased height due to shackles.

If you have constant load, best to get stronger leafs, feels stiffer than stock.

None will increase your payload, you probably already knew that.

Thanks for the explanation. My use will be similar to the OP's where I want some lift/level but haul and tow a camper fairly often and don't want the "Bro Lean". The Timbrens sound great except for jacking it up to add spacers and it sounds like an uncomfortable ride when they're on and not loaded.

I guess air bags are the way to go - still have to air up/down but at least you don't have to jack up the rear end and install/remove spacers.

It only takes me about 5-10min per side to add/remove the spacers and sometimes I leave them in if it's a short between camping trips. I think I chose Timbrens too because I didn't want to fiddle with psi or worry about leaks even though it's rare and AirBags are probably the superior option. Go with what you think works best for you given the pros/cons.

Either or, it's nice to have something to dampen the bounce so you have steering control at all times. My WDH will prevent rear squat when parked but a big bounce during the drive and I hated the feeling.

Okay..........The install is done. OMG. Glad I am not doing that again anytime soon. I will post better before and after photos in the next few days. I took pictures in a few locations and going to try and replicate those with the lift. 5100's on middle setting with a single coachbuilder shim added. I was a 36 inches before and am 38 1/4 inches in the front now, rear stayed mostly the same, within 1/4 inch or so with the new rear 5100 shocks.

THE RIDE IS................INCREDIBLE. So much better just running around the neighborhood, but went down a wash board dirt road and could hardly tell. Ride is awesome. My stock shocks were garbage, completely collapsed them and they would barely recover to extended. JUNK.

I will add more pictures and discuss some of the DIY driveway tips and frustrations I had. Average DIY'er it is a day project, I started too late, got too tired and was frustrated by some of the things youtube shows that are so easy.........NOT SO EASY. hahahahaha.

It's done and looks and rides good. Very happy with the 5100 shocks.

Congratulations, I went with the same set up and the ride is awesome! I did notice that before my height was 37 1/4 both sides in the front, afterwards the drivers side was 38 3/4 and passenger front at 39". I thought that was strange? Not sure if I should leave it alone or remove the shim on the passenger side, curious if yours is even? Your right it was an all day event, actually about 7 hours.

I just installed mine today. 5100s in the rear. 5100s in front at top slot. I can not get the driver’s side sway bar end link back together. I am dreading it but I may have to take the whole freaking thing apart and lower the struts to the middle setting. Any words of wisdom?

It is a royal pain in the ass. I had to take the whole sway bar off. Took both end links out and unbolted it from the frame. Then I put both end links in and finger tightened the bolts. Then I put the rear bolt in first on the frame mounts and slid the mount into the other bolt, tightened the rears up to hold it in place, tightened the end links and then the front frame mounts. I fought with it for an hour.

I have the measurements in the truck, so i will have to get them and look again. I measured once right after it was done and it was high, like the rear was over 40". I drove about a mile to the park and then measured again and the numbers were different. Then I went for a nice 5 mile drive and did the dirt road and went back to the park and took the final measurements. To be honest, at 3/4 inch difference, i wouldn't mess with anything. Too many factors to mess with for a quarter inch. I also made sure to put 40 psi in all my tires before the road check so that would eliminate any deviance.

Thanks dude. I got greedy and put it on the highest one. Now I have to buy a block or leaf spring for the back to raise it an inch. I want some slight rake just in case I end up getting a camper. I will also be buying/charging wheels and tires tomorrow I think. Once I get the height, wheels and tires I am going to slow down and only upgrade when I have cash on hand. At least that is the plan

Okay so here are a few before and after pictures. Still working on getting some better ones, but these should be close. Front has settled at 38 1/2" with 5100's on middle setting and single coachbuilder shim. Rear is at 39 1/8 on both sides. So gained 2 1/4" lift in the front and just a little in the rear due to new shocks giving positive pressure.

I think the pictures are in before and after order. Next will be tires I think. Might go to 18" rims and do 275/70/18 or keep my 20" rims and do 275/60/20. I'm thinking a 33" tire will be a good size and fit.
