First off let me say thank you to everyone who has helped answer questions and provide insight for me the Newbie LoL. All of you are very helpful and supportive

The reason for this thread is that my family is looking for a change into a better environment.

I know it’s not the usual thing to do and post such ramblings on the inter webs ,but I’m going to go out on a limb here. I’ll take all the help i can get

Does anybody on here have any direct hire mechanical or maintenance geared jobs open out West? Ive tried the whole online thing with almost no results,or being referred to Temp Agencies.?

I have been at the same company for 10 years and have no growth or positive enhancement opportunities.

Personally, and as a family we are looking for a positive change both in employment and our surroundings.

We have visited out west several times and love the active environment for the family and the beautiful scenery.

I’m not looking to do something rash like drop everything and just walk away from my current job. I have a family and that wouldn’t be a wise financial or responsible thing to do.

However, that does not mean that I cannot begin the process,or entertain the idea of making a change

Life is hard as we all know, but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for everything and you can’t work towards things you desire. I do know life’s a journey and things don’t happen overnight.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this, and if anybody has any help or advice they’re willing to give I thank you in advance

Sorry I don’t have any leads for you, but good on ya for not being complacent. You say out west, specifics? California, Oregon, Washington? Or just more west than you are now? It may help if you provide some places that you have been thinking about. Nevertheless good luck on your search.

Colorado,Utah,Idaho,Montana,Wyoming,Nevada are all places that we have considered but we’re open.

California might not be on the list due to the insane high cost of living.

Yeah I wouldn’t suggest California either. I make a decent wage but not compared to California standards. I get by but I’m definitely not flourishing. California can be OK but you’d have to live inland to get better housing prices. I live 2 miles from the beach and it’s quite pricey. You can literally buy a house for half as much as mine and twice the size, living in either a bad neighborhood LOL or inland Empire.

Vegas is booming right now. Housing is going up but still very affordable. Lots of jobs are being made out there it seems at the moment. This is one of the places I’ve been contemplating as my in-laws now lives there. If I could find a job paying what I get paid here I would do well.

I'd stay away from Colorado if you're concerned about housing prices. polished turds, i mean houses, are going for double what they're really worth. rent is gross out here as well.

Front range...yes but quite a bit cheaper elsewhere in the state. A lot cheaper. Alamosa, Pueblo, Grand Junction, east CO for example.

I’ve had several co workers transfer from Denver who said the same about housing being insane.

As far as Vegas goes, that’s really not our style. We already live in GA and hate Atlanta. I can’t inagine Vegas being much different lol.

Secondly,i do understand there can be more money made during “booms”...but what happens when it busts? I’ve been there and done that losing my good job and being thrown out to the wolves.

I would be happy with a stable job, making less money in a good family environment versus raking in the cash temporarily

As i said above,i do have a family who I’m responsible for both emotionally and financially

    Move to Colorado Springs.

You will have to make 4100.00 per year more to have the same lifestyle you do now.

This was surprising, 5% lower housing cost.

    10% higher food cost.

We’ve been to CO Springs. My 12yo daughter actually said she wants to move to CO it’s one of her life goals, along with visiting Hawaii for a week or two.

Not sure About all my guns and stuff though lol. Living in the south were a free unrestricted state lol.

Just a little insight to my current employment, Im full time with benefits and work 3 twelve hour shifts in a row and have 4 days off after that. My hourly wage is $34.xx plus shift differential and foreman pay

The oil/ nat gas industry is doing well but that does depend on the whims of DC but not the high tech industry. A lot of the aerospace companies that I'd go to for calibration work in Kali left Kali and moved here. I've been here since 04 and our lab has never been so busy. So busy that our corporate office is focusing on our lab to build it up to handle what's coming down the pike. Wages are pretty decent here depending on what you do.

I’m not sure what GA has that CO doesn’t except capacity of magazines. As of now, yours would be grandfathered anyway. I’m sure that will be tossed anyway soon enough.
I have personally purchased a 30 rd magazine while the ATF was inside the gun shop.

you have kids, you need good schools. Either public schools (means good neighborhood and housing up) or you live in a cheaper home and schools suck and have to put them to private which ends up being the same than forking for a higher rent/mortgage to begin with. CA is great but expensive to live in. You need 2 incomes here. how about AZ ?
Vegas is nice but summer sucks there. CO is great but many Californians moving there :)

    Correct on many fronts.

Yes sucky schools are one of our present issues. We are a single income family.

We have a 12 year old daughter. The wife stays at home taking care of the 15 month old and 2 month old.

Hey! Glad I saw your post - my company is looking for pre-config technicians and a field service engineer/tech in Conyers and Atlanta, respectively. We also have a number of positions available on the west coast.

I work for the best company on the planet. Salary is very competitive. We typically look for someone with at least a 4 year degree in mechanical engineering, electrical, or software/computer science. If you have good mechanical experience and aren't a potato behind a computer that will absolutely suffice.

Please send me a PM if you're interested and I'll give you the info to apply. Honestly I love the company I work for and plan on dying here.. There is a lot of opportunity for growth for people who can do the job well, soak up lots of info from a variety of disciplines, and be professional and organized. Company car included for field positions. Some travel both by car within your region and by plane to other regions to help out when you're ready for that. Hit me up!

I will add that if you were to start in Georgia but give your intent to move west at some future date, positions are always opening because we are growing like mad and promote from within.. So if you start in GA and go for a position in the west when it opens, my company would help with your moving expenses. ;)

Our North American HQ is in Salt Lake City, there are always management and leadership jobs opening here that would provide an opportunity to move here too, with moving expenses covered if it went there.

The way I pitched that it sounds like we're a sales company or something. We're not - we develop and manufacture automated packaging machines. We are the top tier in our industry, our closest competitor being miles behind us. As a field service engineer or technician you would be providing scheduled and emergency maintenance on our equipment, within a defined region (mostly). We place a big focus on self-improvement/development and finding the right work/life balance. The job is a salaried position with a generous benefit package.

If this is something you want to hear more about please PM me and I'll give you a lot more information.

Thank You everyone for your positive support and ideas. @Backslider I appreciate your input. I did take a deeper look at those Tech Positions. Having a traveling job and being on the road or on call 24/7 is not something that would be positive for my family.
