So I am monitoring my transmission temperatures via OBD Fusion. There are two points where the temps are taken; which I think are fluid temp at ??, and temp at the torque converter.

What I have observed is one of the temps has gone up to 220+ when the trans kicks down to climb or accelerate. The other temp has gone to 200. After cresting the hill they both start dropping.

I am curious what temps others ave observed.

My truck is a 2010 V6 auto with 63000 miles.

    Thanks

I monitor my trans temp with my BullyDog and during my normal commute (flat) it usually hovers right around 186.

Towing my little boat thru some hills I've seen it push 200-202. Once out of the hills it's back to 186.

Having said that, I have no idea if it's reading from the convertor or the pan.

I had a 2010. It was usually 185-200. Sometimes it would climb to 210-215 at highway speeds. It was random and wasn’t only in hills. I saw 230s on hills or while towing. This was in a replaced and probably refurbished transmission though. I got 30k miles on it before I traded it in and I’m pretty sure it was going out.

My temps were high all the time. Just installed the 07 cooler in line with the 10+a/c condenser cooler. No good info yet as it was just done. Below is a light hill before the install. Temps are a little higher when I get on it.. and higher even when towing.

I really want to know when the thermostat opens. It is over 195 as the coolant runs into the trans

I wanted add that I do not have a tow package.

That being said how is the trans oil cooled? I believe it is a cooler mounted on the side on the transmission, am I correct?

It was a separate cooler in front of the radiator on the passenger side. They changed it in 2010 to where it is in the same cooler as the ac condensor. The top part is the transmission cooler. This is still how my 2018 is. You can see the trans lines going in to the black radiator on the upper passenger side.

Not sure if it’s the same for trucks without tow package.

That black one is your ac condensor. It doesn’t look like you have the trans cooler hoses or the separate cooler.

Not sure if the change was made in 2010. Mine's a 2010 with the separate cooler.

    Thanks for the info.

I wonder if my trans temps warrant a separate cooler (I don’t tow and only haul once in a while)?

2010 here with the stand-alone cooler as well. Factory tow package.

Who's pinning open their tranny thermostats?

Not sure if you "need" one but it certainly wouldn't hurt anything to add one. Might ease your mind a bit.

You can get a good trans cooler for under $100. Then have to get hoses. Not sure if the transmissions without a factory one have the connenections. Might have to get the thermostat and drain it to install.
