really looking at this now that it's panic time with the transfer flow tanks being discontinued. have to s%$^ or get off the pot to get one of the last tftanks or do this....leaning towards this because of the weights between the two tanks

Honestly the weight alone should make this a better choice think this way.. 38 is less than 46 but throw two 5gal cans in the bed and you have more and save almost 75lbs compared to TF tank. The 38gal plastic tank weights like 25-40lbs the Tf tank is like 100+

I looked on their site and didn't see anything. But they also don't list a tundra tank anymore

Yeah I’m solely going on the word of a few people here who mentioned it and that it’s been pulled from the site I couldn’t find anything on their site, insta or the book of face saying that. But either way this is a better option imo

I'm not arguing about which is better. I just want to know if it's actually been discontinued. Or maybe they're coming up with something better

even with the rci skid plate, i'm still around half the weight of the tf tank. compare that to how often i actually will use that extra 8 gallons of fuel pretty much makes the arguement. ordering now.

I read through your posts @papasmurf and even @SoCalDave install and have a list of questions. I am not concerned about doing the actual job, just getting the right parts before I start to limit my truck downtime. Sorry for the length in advance! :)

    - Is your truck a flex fuel vehicle? (alot of the parts are the flex fuel ones)
    - Did all the electrical wires reach without issue?
    - Regarding sending unit changing is that easy? I can’t find anyone that has done it.
    - Does the sending unit need to be changed regardless because the tank is bigger? (Mine only has 22k on it so contemplating not changing)
    - The fuel lines seem longer to the front of the tank? Are these needed: (there is another part number for a non-flex fuel truck)
77209-0C160 tube pump to tank edge w/flex
77204-0C090 tube pump to tank edge return
    - On the 38g there seems to be an extra breather, did the “red” breathers come on the new tank?
    - The “pin” is used to hold the tank strap in the cross member correct?
    - Did you add any support to the cross member strap after removing the material?
    - Regarding the cross member mounting is there enough access to fit a hand drill? (passenger side frame area)
    - Can the heat shield be installed afterwards?

My truck is an 07 flex fuel is not an option... if they are also flex fuel parts that’s ok. The part numbers I listed are the correct ones. Initially I ordered the longer fuel lines but in fact the hard lines the plastic ones connect to are difficult to move and the short ones for the 26 gal tank work just fine so save some $ and reuse them. W only 22k miles you are fine on fuel sending unit. I had 183k miles so I changed mine. Not sure about the breathers. I installed the tank w the parts I listed no additional was needed and it works fine. As far as frame holes there is room for a drill. Like I said welding is easier and faster if you can do it that way. But you can drill no problem. The pin holds the passenger side of the strap in place and the bolt holds the driver side. I did not add any additional material to the cross member after removing that notch. It’s shaped and plenty strong enough as is... it’s mosly just holding the tank not adding frame strength since my truck never had one. But I’m sure it adds a little but it’s fine the way it is. The heat shields can be added afterwards. I’m not going to add them. But you could if you wanted. Oh and yes all the electrical stuff reach w no issues. I don’t even think I had to loosen anything ... just unplug them and plug them back in. On the sending unit, since you have the pump out for higher mileage vehicles. It’s wise to change it but sounds like for yours it won’t be an issue.

Let me know if there is any other questions

Not sure if that’s all of them.. but it might. I’d imagine Toyota predrilled all frames the same so it should have them.

I just compared them to my brother’s 16 tundra that has the 38 gallon tank. It appears that they are in the spot. There was a rumor back then that the 15’s were so supposed to come with the bigger fuel tank but it never happened. Looks like they were planning to.

Thanks for that info. I get why the longer lines aren't needed as the ones on the truck side would need to be moved towards the front of the vehicle and there is room on top of the tank to just hook up the shorter ones (makes sense in my mind)
I have priced this out several ways using an online Toyota part source and the big issue is shipping the tank. It adds about $250+ for my location making the tank about $1100.
If I can source one differently I could see this being feasible.

    Thanks again!

I haven't tried calling my local dealership yet. It would probably end in frustration....
