Engine Cleaning

Good Evening everyone. I am about to clean my engine and I need some advise. I am planning to use Gunk Engine Cleaner (Foamy) and Gunk Engine Protector. I do have some some questions:

1) Do I need to cover any part of the engine up? It looks like all the connection points are sealed well.

2) Is it okay to get the foam on the engine wet? I ask this because I plan on removing the engine cover to clean. Has anyone tried removing the foam to wash their engine? I am not really excited about getting the Gunk cleaner and protector on the foam.

3) For those of you that have used Gunk Protector, how long does the protection last? Is there anywhere on the engine I should not spray the Gunk Protector?

I welcome any other helpful hints. Learning from ya'll would be an honor!

Just rinse it off with a hose and you'll be fine. Don't go crazy around obvious electrical connections.

I probably wouldn't use a pressure washer.

 

I use same, foamy, I use a pressure washer about a foot n a half away

Thanks everyone. So does this mean the foam can get wet? Can afterspray of the gunk products on foam hurt the foam?

 

I've never had an issue cleaning the engine bay on any of the cars I've owned. I try not to spray the alternator or fuse box directly though. Those are about the only things I'd worry about so cover them if you like. Keep the cleaner off of belts and pulleys too or they'll squeal for a while.
