So I towed my boat for the first time with my new to me TRD Pro Tundra and it seemed like it revved to the moon when i got on the highway. it seemed to do pretty good once I forced it into 6th gear but if i didnt it would jump back and fourth between 5th and 6th. would a tuner be able to adjust this out when im towing? is there any solution? I dont want to have to remember to take it out of manual mode before I get off the highway if i can help it. Boat is under 3,000 lbs

That seems a little odd to me. My boat is 4800 lbs and you don't even know it's back there when on the highway. Are you keeping it on tow/haul mode? If not, that may be your issue. I really can't think of why that would be happening, i'm sure someone else will chime in. I have an SR5 Crewmax 4wd w/the tow pkg.

I also just bought a new RV that's about 5600 lbs, ( see "what do you tow") drove down the freeway like it was nothing. Just keep checking back, someone will give you the answer or suggestions you are looking for. Good luck!

I would tow between 2500-3400 rpm all day long.

    Let that V8 sing!!!

I guess I’m use to my old Silverado towing up to 80mph at about 2200rpm with the same boat. Seems like I’m unnecessarily burning gas with it revved above 3000

Silverado's are typically geared much differently then a Tundra, your looking at most of them being a 3.08 or hopefully a 3.42 compared to the Tundra's 4.30 rear gear. Let that thing eat, don't be concerned about the rpms.

Sorry, but how do you force it into 6th? "Manual" mode just sets the maximum gear you can be in, not the minimum.

Also the TRD Dual exhaust causes a small loss in torque at lower RPMs, so that is a reason you're getting a bit higher RPMs, and it jumping gears a little more often than it should.

When I put it in manual, I can shift up and down, I know what rpms it does in manual so it’s prettu easy to tell when it’s just in drive and shifting when I’m doing 70mph

so my wife and i just picked up our travel trailer, aspen trail 2790bhs, 6500lbs dry, 9680lbs gvwr. so its just under the max of my 2018 tundra sr5 crew max. i had the same question about the rpms. on the highway yesterday coming back from the dealer i was cruising at 68mph and the rpm was 3000. after reading the other comments i now know its normal and a normal sound for the truck. i have never towed anything this big or heavy before.

    -Tow haul.
-Manual shift mode, 4th most of the time, 5th only when I know it will hold the gear for a while.
-Towing speed usually right around 68.
    -Usually pulling around 8k loaded.
