    Peoples,

I was browsing IG today and I noticed a post on Revolution Gear & Axles profile where someone was asking for 5.29s on our trucks. I sent them a DM to second the 5.29 ratio and they mentioned that they were not aware that people were actually interested in this gear ratio. We got to chatting and I told them that there are plenty of off-road and street guys with Tundras who are interested. I told them I would make a thread for people to post up and make their voices heard for them to be convinced to make the gear ratio available. I know a bunch of you are riding on big tires with crazy wheel packages for either street or off-road, but anyone with a 35"+ tire would hugely benefit from this.

I know there is rumors of another company who was supposed to make these, but it seems like the deadline keeps getting delayed and delayed and ultimately no one has heard anything solid. Revolution gear is interested in hearing our voice, so here's your chance to hopefully make a difference. Ultimately, I am sure my truck will end up on 37's, so i am also selfishly hoping you guys also chime in and help me get the ball rolling.

I will be sending them a link to this thread, so if you all want to chime in with your interest, I know it would help get the ball rolling on this!!

For some motivation, here is a pic of my Revolution Gear 4.88s patiently waiting to get installed on my Tundra. If only i could find a money tree for dual ARBs...

I've been holding out for the 5:29s. 4:88 would help a lot for 35s but if I ever want to go bigger I'll be right back where I am now but with a lighter wallet.

They haven’t committed a time yet, but they are interested in understanding if there is a market. Considering no one else has made them, they’d effectively have a monopoly on this.

Ditto. I bought 4.88s and almost gave up on the 5.29s, but hopefully revolution pulls through.

Nitro Gear is also looking to release 5.29s. Their site estimates the release 3/2019.

Just got my 4.88s today, should be great for 35s and I'm sure 37s would get me some tickets in Minnesota for frame height. Dam those blue hair Fkers!20180924_202102.jpg

Damn. Well I guess that’s good news and bad. I thought motive was supposed to release the other set, so I googled them and found nothing. Didn’t know about nitro releasing them though. I’ll shoot this over to Revolution anyway...

I saw that Matt (MCM) recently installed a trial set of 5:29s. So, they're getting close.

What would a 5.29 ratio solve that the 4.88 didn't? I'd be worried about the pinion being the weak point at that point. Going by the math of (new tire diameter/old tire diameter) x original gear ratio I should only be running 4.61. Seems 4.88 would be pretty close to the sweet spot.

Hmm. 5.29 tundra 3rds, diamond axle housings, 60 outers, full float rear. Damn that'd be sweet setting under this.

I have 4:88's in both my Tundras running 34" tires Supercharged in my daily driver and 35" tires NA in my project truck but if 5:29's came out I would definitely put them in my project truck with the 35's as I think I'm going to stay NA and might consider 37's.

I inquired to these yesterday to the person who posted them on facebook (Chris Visual). I specifically asked if these would benefit me with 37's...here's the response:
"4.88s are still going to be crowned king for most owners with 37s or less, we made the 5.29 happen because more & more people are out there pushing for 40s OR running 37s with a TON of aftermarket goodies that rob you of weight to power ratio. Kind of a case by case basis. We like to know exactly how it's built & what you use your truck for before recommending one or the other . hopefully this helps :) "

Either way. Whomever makes the 5.29s needs to make them work with front and rear ARB lockers. The master tech at the Toyota dealership asked me about the gears as I told him I wanted to get 37s and 5.29s. He asked if the lockers I have installed would be compatible with the new gears? So does anyone know about that?

Yes, the gears would be based off the a factory style carrier. So if you have an arb or an lsd, they would still work.

More than likely, you have 4.30s. When you start to adding weight and much higher tires, your driveability suffers. By adding a taller tire, you are effectively changing the over drivetrain ratio. Depending on your tire size, 5.29s would get you back to stock type driveability.

Doo eet! Make sure you vote on the poll.

Status update. Link has been sent to Revolution. They should be seeing this. I’m following up with them here in a little bit.

For most guys, 4.88s will be the sweet spot for 37s to almost stock
    I love my 4.88s.
I initially had em with Toyo MT 35s, then switched to NItto 37s.

Only way I would want 5.29s would be if I had 40s.

My trucks a fat ass with all the extra weight. I want those 5.29s and 37s. I’m sitting on 35s now with stock gears and I can feel the weight slowing me down and I’m still missing the RTT that will live permanently on my bed rack. Another 161 lbs.

Motive Gear has a set out in the wild being tested by @M C M. Nitro's set is coming out March next year supposedly. If Revolution can somehow beat them both to market, they could snatch that early customer base easily. I, for one, will be going to 5.29s for sure from my Nitro 4.88s because I'm going to 42-44" tires next after my 40s. My truck is also supercharged.

If everything stays as planned, Motive should have the 5.29s ready to sell in the next 15-20 days. I have been testing them for a little over a month now. The pinion size is not much smaller than the 4.88s, and a 7 tooth vs an 8 tooth. Motive is also releasing a new helical style LSD carrier, which will be a great addition as the Auburn really struggles with the larger tires. It has been a long roller coaster with motive as they have not only been doing the 10.5 gear sets, but also multiple other Toyota applications. The 10.5" gears are coming out of their Italian plant and a real quality gear set.

The 4.88s are a great option for 35s, they bring it back close to stock, but with the 6 speed trans and 2 overdrive gears, the big heavy 37s make the truck hunt alot on highway driving. My truck is Supercharged, Full Long Tube Headers, 3" Dual Exhaust to 3.5" Out, URD Pulley, and Custom Tuned by DAP Tuning, so its making alot of HP and running 37s. Its a good test for the strength and durability of the pinion. So far I have been extremely happy with the way the truck drives with the 5.29s. I was happy with the 4.88s on 35s, but going to 37s and going away from the Rock Warrior wheels, the extra size and mass was a very noticeable loss in power.

Nitro always said they wouldnt make 5.29s, as soon as I posted the Motives on IG suddenly they were interested and even started emailing me about it.

Also, the gears will work with the ARBs and other carriers, since the tundra already starts with a 4.10 or 4.30 gear. Some of the Tacomas and smaller SUVs that have 3.73 options are the ones that sometime run into the issues with the carrier, alot of manufacturers offer thick ring gears to help with that these days.

Praise the lord and Thank you Jesus.. I don’t get on much but this was nice to see.. just my opinion but 4.88 don’t make ME feel like I’m alMost stock power in my truck.. it still feels sluggish with 37’s and 22 wheels.. If 5.29’s give me 100% stock power over what I have now, I’m all in...

i am having my truck lifted this November and 35s put in it, i am also pulling trailer with it and would really like to just do this one time if 5.29 soon i will wait until then, i am also putting lockers so doing all one time will really be the ideal solution for me...
