Not sure , I never use pressure washers. I just use a 2 bucket system with a microfiber sponge.
I tired using the pressure washer with foam cannon and I still had to scrub the truck by hand. Didnt make any sense to whip out the pressure washer for something I have to scrub anyway.

I bought plastics to replace the chrome. The rear ones seem to be missing some material along the top. Seems like theres an extra bracket for the plastic ones for reinforcement that the chrome ones didnt need.

I could be wrong as i havent disassembled anything yet... id hate to get into it and have to redo and undo it all over again because im missing pieces...

    Thanks in advance!

Never mind - I found it, just had to dig deeper...

I scored a set of end caps from a platinum on CL and having them painted to match @ a local body shop. all together I’m at 285 between parts and paint, will install when I figure out what I’m doing with the chrome surround and bulge. I don’t really mind the grill insert that’s on my 18 limited.

Can any of you that did the plastic corners show a pic of them? Ordered directly from Toyota too, and going to swap out the chrome for these plastic ones. How do they look unpainted?

For those that swapped your chrome for plastic painted ones, it says you need a liner extension. Is that true and if so, where does it go?

Do you need to take the end caps off to remove surround and grill? Or vice versa to change out end caps? Want to redo front end but money wise might have to do in separate steps spread out a bit

I am not sure what the “surround” is.

Hopefully this will help—I took off the grill and bulge to replace them and I didn’t have to remove anything else. Six months later I took off the bumper to get to the end caps...both are pretty straightforward.

What and where is everyone ordering their oem paint or vinyl wrap from? Any particular sites that are above the rest? As someone who will be replacing their bumper in the near future, I refuse to drop tons of money on this project lol.

Did you get the two liner seals? I read you might get away with trimming what's there?

I have been lurking for a while on this site to see how folks were 'de-chroming' their tundras, I finally decided to
take a shot at doing this to my 2016 Super White CM. Power coating is bucks where I live (San Jose, Ca area) as
is having a body shop paint them body color. I have prepped and painted cars before so decided I would take a shot
and have it redone by a shop if I F'ed it up.

With several fairly small surfaces needing paint (not painting a hood here) - I started looking to see if there was a decent match for 2016 Super White 040 in a commercially
available spray can. After testing several different cans of white (I now have a life time supply of white rattlecans in various shades) -
I came up with Rustoleum Painters touch in # 342251 Gloss White (The # is very important as they have 3 shades of 'gloss white'). I
picked up mine at walliemart (Home depot stocks another shade in my area). I have used this paint before and it is fairly tough and
    has weathered well.

Anywho...I sanded the 4 chrome bumper ends with a random orbital and 80 grit, degreased, etch primed, sanded, primed, sanded and painted with 5-6 coats. Similar process for hood bulge and grill surround (I didn't know the center grille section is removable from the
shroud you want to paint) - but hand sanded instead of machine sanded the chrome on plastic. Finish went on well and dried very glossy.

End result - color is a 99% match (you have to look at it in the perfect light to see the slight shade difference) on the grill surround and bulge. For some damn reason - I can notice a slight shade difference between the from bumper caps and the factory painted panels below
the headlights. The rear caps are a near perfect match with the bed sides and tailgate.

Just thought i'd throw this out there for you Super White 040 DIY'ers

How many cans did you go through? Trying to get an idea of how many I need to get as i plan on doing this as well. Im assuming you removed all parts to sand and paint?

Actually - removed the grille and bulge for painting. With grille removed, removed plastic panels under headlights, lower grille support, fog light assemblies, the fender well splash panels (behind fogs) and the plastic shroud cover thats the middle of bumper (reach 3x hidden 10mm nuts on both sides through fog light bumper end cutouts) . I just drop clothed the fender / engine area and behind the bumper ends. This goes pretty fast once you do it 1x.

For the rear bumper ends - I just popped up the plastic bumper step pad and popped a bolt between bottom of pad and top of bumper to maintain a
gap so I could get paint up under where pad covers. Remove the 3x plastic pop fasteners on the underside in hitch area first. Once the bumper pad
is popped up - just tape the lip of the pad well so no paint reached the step pad and paper from there up and below to protect from spray. I choose to do
it this way after reading what was involved to get the plastic step pad completely off. No regrets here - the rear bumper ends turned out perfect and no paint got on the pad.

Awesome job, looks great. Can’t wait to do mine.

How many cans did you have to go through for the ends and surround combined?

oops sorry - my last answer was half baked - for the bulge, grill surround, front and rear bumper ends with 5 coats all around - I went through
about 5 cans (these were the promo 25% free type cans). I would say it would have taken about 6 normal sized rattle cans. I used about 4.5 cans
of the etching metal primer as well. I did not clear this as I was afraid the shade would have changed - I am rethinking not doing this now.

Again - the color code for the gloss white is what matters here (besides very good prep)

Here's the final product. Deplated the chromed bumper caps and had them painted. Removing chrome at a plating shop was 140 for the bumpers ends front n back. Really don't like the idea of sanding chrome myself or even paying to get it done. Hexavalent chromium is a nasty and dangerous metal, whether on your skin or lungs. Not to mention the fact that primer is not too kin on adhering to chrome, sanded or not. Got a hood bulge and grill shroud which I purchased used, they're OEM and originally MGM in color but rather faded n old. Got one on Facebook Market, and the other on Offerup. Total 200. Painting the bumper caps, bulge, and shroud was $350. Total in parts and labor was about 690.......... Full disclosure, I had to paint everything twice because I refused to wait to have it done right by a proper paint shop. Hence an extra 300 bucks that I didn't mention above which I paid an idiot who did a horrid job that had to be redone by a proper paint shop. Lesson learned, whatever you decide on doing, make sure to stick with professional people in order to prevent any do overs at your expense.

I did that a while back. But I live in Ohio! Half way thru winter ended up behind a salt truck. Spinning salt all over the road and my bulge and surround and when I home it looked like I drove thru a sand blaster, so I went with body shop paint and have been good ever since. Avoid salt trucks at all cost. But it does look great.
