So I am doing research into foldable covers and have been looking at Extang, UnderCover, Backflip, Truck Covers USA, Titanium and Fold-a-Cover. I want one when I buy my 2016 or 2017 Platinum. So far, the Fold-a-Cover G4 Elite is out in front of the others. It looks like it works without having to remove the tie down rail system. I like this one because I can open and close the tailgate without lifting the cover, it has it's own lock and the front panel near the cab can be opened and locked independently. If I get the caddy box, I think this will be great to put my buddy's and my guns in when we go on trips. I saw in another thread that @Tundracm16 has one and liked his. I was wondering if anyone else had one and what their experience was. I'm interested in how they hold up and likes/dislikes and if they installed it themselves, how difficult it was. Any input will be appreciated.

I've got that exact cover on a new Tundra Limited (G4 Elite) and am very pleased. What I like above all others is full bed access or just front/rear. Install it when you have time and an iced 6 pack. It is not hard to install but getting it dialed in makes it great. Good people to deal with and quality parts. Can't miss.

Thanks @too tall for your input and suggestions. The front and rear access is what I like too. Definitely going to do the 6 pack. Or maybe 2!

Did you get your fold a cover installed? Pics? What are your thoughts so far? I'm strongly considering this one for my truck as well.

I did the install myself. It took one afternoon of carefully work. Getting everything perfect results in a rock solid setup. You open the hatches and let them slam shut under their own weight with a nice THUNK! What I appreciate about this is ability to (hatch) gain access to the front or back AND able to fold it all the way back to one section.
    Could not be happier.

    too tall,

Thanks for the reply. It's down to this or the revolver or undercover flex. Do you have deck rails? Does it install without having to alter or remove them?

Mine is a 2016 Tundra Limited and I think they all come with rails which are not in the way.

I have the Undercover Flex and am very pleased with it. You do not have to open it to use the tailgate and once you lock your tailgate the bed is secure. There is no need to have two keys to secure the bed.

    Good point about the tailgate.

Hey @DocC22 I did get the G4 Elite and did the install myself. It took me a long afternoon. I didn't want to spend the $250 a local installer was quoting me to do it. The cover comes with the brackets to either mount it to the truck if it has the rails or does not. You don't need to remove or alter the existing factory rails from Toyota. The most difficult part for me was getting the alignment of the wind rails and locking pins just right. If I can do it almost anyone can.

I love that I can open the panel near the cab. I also like that there are blade locks that swing into place when the rear panel is lowered that secure the center panel so you can't just pry it up. The one negative I have is with the rubber seal that comes with the cover you need to lift the rear panel, close the tailgate and then drop it into place. Opening the tailgate you don't need to touch the rear panel. I saw somewhere, someone was going to replace that seal so that they could close the tailgate without lifting the panel. I haven't checked to see how successful they were with it mostly because I can't remember exactly where I saw it. Getting old sucks!

Damn that looks good, would definitely come in handy when stuff slides forward. Too bad I have a undercover flex coming Monday. I would have looked into the G4 elite.

That's the only that I dislike about the extang - not opening from the front. I do like the latches though and the bed being fully locked

I had that extang on my prior truck. I ditched it for Diamondback which was pretty amazing but total overkill for my needs.

I've had mine since Dec 2016 and it hasn't faded, but then my truck is in the garage. As for leaks, it has a couple that let water in when I take it to the car wash. Just some dribbles but nothing big.

Had my G4 Elite since 2016. No leaks on two different trucks. I like it well enough. I got it straight from Fold-A-Cover with a Black Friday deal. Probably my main beef with it is that you have to have a dedicated key for it. I hate keys. I would love it 100% if you could re-pin it to take your ignition key somehow.

    Pros:
    - front & rear access
    - you can open it without opening your tailgate
    - doesn't block rear view when folded up
    - key to open

    Cons
    - key to open
    - if you open your tailgate without opening the cover, you still have to open the cover to close the tailgate. (if you're using the rear seal)
    - piano hinges squeak when you're moving.

K, thanks guys, i will probly get one, but will just wait for the black friday deal.
i have a cover now, but my wife jacked it up pretty good. she folded it back but forgot to strap it down, then got on the highway and the wind flipped it back.
the force of that jerked the 2 clamps loose close to the cab and it flew off, lucky nobody was behind her cause it could have been a disaster.
i can get by with it until then.

i really like the G4, i just wish they had a knob on the inside that you just turned to lock the cover, the whole key thing seems stupid to me.
i mean if you don't have a locking tailgate (we do), and you lock the cover, crooks can still get access, so i really don't understand the point of doing it the way they have.

If you don't have a locking tailgate the cover will have the above brackets in your tonneau package.
If the cover is closed and locked, the L-bracket on the cover is nested into the bracket on the tailgate. This prevents the tailgate from opening.
You will have to unlatch and lift up the back section of cover every time to open & close tailgate. It sounds like an annoyance but once you get use to it, it's second nature.
With enough effort you could break in by deforming / breaking metal tab, but it would take some determination or a pry bar.
I did notice some models don't show bracket. Not sure if tundras come with it or not.

I installed a G4 on my Tacoma in 2012 and it is still holding up great. Tacoma & cover have spent 98% of their life outside.
It took some finesse to initially install but I have only needed to adjust the striker pins 2-3 times in 6 years.
If you find a good deal before black friday please post where you found it.
I am looking to buy a G4 for my tundra too.

I just broke down and ordered one the other day. From looking on the web, if I waited until black Friday, it would have been $50 less. I don't feel like waiting, I have another brand and it's messed up and a pain to deal with. My wife used my truck, forgot to strap it down, when she got on interstate, the wind flipped it closed. The force of that yanked it loose and it flew off the truck. The frame is bent and its hard to fold, and it has some holes in it. Happened about 6 weeks ago, thank God nobody was behind her, could he caused a major accident.

    Hey V-train,

Did you end up buying and installing this cover?
I bought one recently and i don't think i installed the weatherstrip right.
There is a ton of interference between the seal and the tailgate.
Is it suppose to seal on the top or the front of tailgate?
Since i have the track system the front and rear locking pins locate on that so i can't adjust the cover fwd/back much.
    any help is appreciated
    thanks

I will stick some pictures of my rear seal tomorrow. It sits on top of the tailgate, over laps it, but not by much.

I like the cover, love being able to open it from both ends. I just keep in a plastic rope near the cab, it's kinda like having a tool box.

The only thing I wish was different about it was those wind rails. It would be easier to put on if they would have just made the cover wider and ditched those. It would have sealed fine on the sides if it was like that with some rubber on the bottom of the sides.
