Is it just me bothered by this ?
I mean volume “UP/DOWN” and track “Forward/Reverse” -this has been the worldwide standard since the creation of buttons right?

Why in the world is volume forward/reverse and track up/down, I’ve seen other tundras with correct placement, this is setting off my ocd alarm on a daily basis lol

Wonder if you can take that button out and rotate it left 1/4" turn?

I’m used to it now, but it drove me crazy at first. I was coming from a 2011 Tundra where it was the opposite. It still throws me off when I drive my wife’s Sequoia.

Since we’re on the subject, I updated my iPad to IOS12 yesterday. It’s fine, there than they switched the punctuation and emoji keys on the keyboard. Every F-ing time I go to type a number or punctuation, it brings up a bunch of smiley faces. ⚓️!!

    Lmao! :annoyed:

Sas is right though, I think I’m gonna try turning the button this weekend- until then I’ll be on all corners of the internet looking for a better option (a Toyota button with the correct orientation)

I'm not sure if those indicator icons are sticker-like labels, printed/stamped on, or just not painted in. When the button is off you can get a better feel for how they're applied. You can probably find some other decals online with the correct orientation.

Agree with OP. Volume should be up and down, not left and right.

Also, the down arrow on the channel select actually selects a higher number preset channel (since it scrolls down the list of presets). That also seems counter intuitive (at least at first). It makes sense if you visualize the channel list but you're still hitting the down arrow in order to select a higher numbered preset.

It doesn't bother me but it does seem to be less intuitive than it could be.

One the older Tundra steering wheels, to pick up a Bluetooth call, the down button is pressed; to hang up, but up button is pressed. Not intuitive at all. It should be like in the OPs photo, so they've changed that.

Funny thing about the volume buttons on the most recent generations (see OPs photo), is that it makes sense to me. Wait, hear me out. In push button situations, normally, left is lower, and right is higher right? Even dials are like this, you "roll" the dial to the left to decrease, and right to increase like when changing the radio frequency....or the volume.

Hmmm... They changed the buttons around. On my truck there are no phone buttons on the steering wheel. The volume is there instead. And the 4-way button is used to skip tracks and to FF and RW. I think I like the old buttons better.

I just snapped that your picture isn’t like mine. The wheel is different on my 17. My volume is up and down, where your phone buttons are. They are different on my 11 though, just don’t remember how.
My phone buttons are on the right side of my wheel.

I assumed it was because it matches the orientation of the radio station selection (up/down) on the HU. But yes, it took a few trips for it to become intuitive.

My 2015 taco uses the small button to turn the radio up and down. The tundra uses it to pick up and hang up the phone. Drives me NUCKING FUTS!!!

I feel the exact opposite way. My 2014 limited has the phone buttons on the top right side, and then the 4-way buttons on the top left, with the volume buttons down below. I use the volume button probably 30:1 more frequently than the phone buttons. I hate hunting around for the retarded little button when I want to change the volume.

I would have ripped the steering wheel out by now if that's were how mine was configured. It's so illogical.

My truck (17') and my wife's Highlander (14') are very similar and it's nice that you can get in and go.

Like OP, this bugs me too!

The thing that's the hardest to get used to though is the cruise-control-magic-wand-thing. Had my last truck for eight years and the cruise control buttons were on the left of the steering wheel; it felt like a natural location because I normally steer with my left hand (I guess I was used to using the radio or shifting gears with my right hand). So, I could adjust the cruise or use my blinker or whatever with one hand. Also, the cruise button would stay in and on even after turning the truck off then on. Now, I have to turn on the cruise control every time I start driving; I know it's minor, but it's annoying! And that magical cruise stick is a pain to get used to (not to mention that you have to adjust the following distance every flipping time you turn it on)!

I know I'm whining and that it's safer that I have to have Both hands on the steering wheel, but I feel better getting that off my chest... How dare they try to make me a safer driver...

The reason the button is the way it is, is you use the up/down to scroll thru the channels/ presets. The volume buttons correspond to the way the volume displays on the screen

Took me a while to get used to this as well since the Tundra is the only vehicle we have that is volume left or right. Can't tell you how many times I changed the track/station trying to adjust the volume.

Actually if you volume UP on the steering wheel it increases numerically on the radio left to right. So less volume would be zero( to the left) and max would be 50. ( going towards the right).

Yea I cam from a '15 Taco and I have inadvertently placed calls and switched stations for several months. Still do it....not only is the volume button backwards on the Tundra, but the phone controls are where the volume was in the Taco. I'm all effed up...
