Even my 2017 4Runner TRD Pro had a nice, leather steering wheel (with perforated leather on the sides of the wheel)...and the Tundra TRD Pro has a urethane wheel? The 2019 TRDP also has a urethane wheel?

Leather wheels are only standard on the Limited?

Correct, TRD Pro Tundras are based on SR5 to include getting the plastic steering wheel vs leather wrapped

It really is ridiculous, isn't it? A $50k+ truck comes with a freaking Playskool steering wheel.

    Agreed.
My Tacoma was an SR5 and still had the leather wheel.
I plan on checking junkyards for wrecked Tacos and 4Runners to snag a wheel from.

Yes it’s silly. But you can get an aftermarket from SDHQ or Vivid racing. They aren’t cheap $650 but I’m having the dealer put one on my order

    This is the one from
Vivid racing. Looks a lot nicer than the SDHQ to me

Getting a leather wrapped version from Sparks Parts for $550 is a bit much.
I prefer the more OEM look of the SDHQ verus those plam cutouts of the Vivid Racing one. Reminds me of a Momo wheel from the 80s.

The 4Runner wheel is $781 ($523 on Toyota of Cool Springs)?

Just found a used 4Runner wheel with 22k miles for $150. I found my new steering wheel!

That’s a good deal! I do like the SDHQ one. Just is a bit plain Jane for $650 imo. I like the different texture break up of the vivid racing. Like the 4Runner wheel. It has the leather and the perforated. Gives the wheel a nice look

Not silly at all brother. I think it looks really good honestly. Kind of reminds me of the MOMO racing wheel I had in my Built Subi

Get the 50$ from Amazon and sew it on. Looks oem and it is easy to do.

Regarding the black pieces on the steering wheel, did you paint or get replacement parts?

We can do the perforated on the sides as an option. We just chose not to on our standard set up. The perforated does not hold up as well. Quality and longevity were our main goal.

That looks great, Rich! Knowing me, I’d want to get some custom red stitching, red stripe on top, and full alcantara. It would be better to keep it OEM with a factory 4Runner wheel.

I painted them with spray paint to see if i liked the black. Possibly buy black ones for an sr5. Very easy to take off.

Wheel was from a 2016 4Runner with 22k miles. Was hoping Toyota made one with red stitching, but to no avail.

Install was about 20 min. So easy! Especially since the used wheel came with all the buttons!

Did you have to use a steering wheel puller? I have one coming from Ebay from a 2016 Tacoma.

No steering wheel puller. Once the big bolt is out, you can wiggle it off easily.

The urethane steering wheel is a benefit.

It's much easier to clean off the deer blood.
