2002 Long Travel Build

Greatly appreciated! Yeah i'm keeping a reserve fund for when shit breaks. Right now, as i'm trying to save up enough money as I can, i'm focusing on composing a list of everything I want to do and trying to organize what I want to invest in first. I'm thinking shocks, but i'm not sure. Ive been welding for a couple years so that's not an issue, even if there is something I am concerned about my father is a Ground Equipment Mechanic. I don't have a drop bracket lift or $10k in bolt on parts. I don't fit in here ha

Had some fun with the truck after a full prep.

 

Also my core support was all cracked and ripping apart so I cut it out and replaced it with tubing.

Dang man, glad you're ok. Not many folks would've made it out of that with just ligament damage. Octillo? You're close. I used to ride out there but haven't been back since I moved back to SoCal.

 

Time for the quarterly update... Finished up the console just need to paint it.







Got a bunch of stock plastic trim back in fit around the cage





Also went out Christmas weekend and it was a mess. I fucking hate mud.







Love having a bed, buddy picked up a super clean 650 and wanted to take it out on the trip but didn't have a way to get it out.

 

@Supermoto bro, IM FEELING THIS TRUCK!!! One of my close friends is contemplating a 1st gen to do a nice mid-travel on! Love all the progress and time you have in your joint. Keep it up man!

Wells its been almost two years since i posted. I built new steering over the last few months.



After blowing up yet another steering rack on a recent trip to Big Bear, CA I decided to finally fix the problem and build my own steering.



This is my order from PSC. Saginaw steering box, ram assist, reservoir, TC power steering pump and all the hydraulic lines and misc hardware.



This is the start of the steering centerlink before the overlay plates



Finished the centerlink and started the swingers.







Mount for the new box tacked up. As you can see I had to rebuild the exhaust to fit.



Here is the swing setup on the truck. To the right you can see the splined shaft of the new steering box.

Because the new steering box is basically under the driver seat I had to get creative to get the steering shaft down to it. This is a bevel box. Basically its a 90 degree gear box for the steering shaft.



Here is that bevel box on the truck with mockup u-joints to get the angles dialed in.

Built an adapter to the TC power steering pump to the factory mount.



Uses the factory length belt too.



After welding on all the tabs and painting it all up.

 

Damn that’s impressive!

 

Let us know how it goes after the shakedown.

 

Shook it down last weekend in Ocotillo, zero issues. Love the feel of the new steering.
