Nothing wrong with what you have. The synthetic is just a bit easier and quicker. especially the larger mitts

I was lucky enough to get some in a giveaway on Autopia.....only down side to it is, like most fallout removers, the smell

 

Those of you who use clay eraser mitt hex logic pad by CG instead of clay bar, you finding good results. Using the fine mitt.
Seem like whenever I use it, pad scratches more than removing contaminants. I went back to my black CG bar and had better results.
Wonder if I am doing something wrong. I am using clay CG clay lube. Should I lube the pad and surface?

 

I spray clay lube on the clean surface and then apply the mitt. 1st time I used it I marred up the surface slightly. Seems to me I need to use a heavy amount of lube in order to use the mitt safely. I used a fairly heavy clay bar with no marring. Heavy clay bar worked like a charm to remove contaminants.

 

Used the clay Saturday, no there is no break in period for CG clay. I do spray some lube on the clay as well.
Thinking I should purchase a nanoskin mitt. Sounds less harsh then CG mitt. CG uses this hex logic design that real harsh on soft Tundra paint. Anyone else having the same issues with CG mitt?

 

How often do you guys clay bar anyways?..

 

Clay to much, ubsessive compulsive when I wash and wax. Its real bad

 

Are you saying you clay every time you wash?

 

No, every other time. Claying is a time suck. But I like my paint to look real nice

I don’t have experience with the CG mitt, but I use the Nanoskin mitt pretty regularly. I’ve used it on several makes and colors, with no marring I’ve noticed. A while back, I followed it up with actual clay to see if the mitt had left anything behind, and it hadn’t.

I would say once or twice a year at most for claying. If you want to decontaminate more often, Iron-X may be an easier and safer option than running clay over the paint so frequently. I always use Iron-X before clay anyway. Makes it a lot easier.

 

Since we’re on the subject, has anyone found a cheaper alternative to Iron-X with equal results? It’s a great product, but it is pretty pricey. I’ve heard of guys using Adams wheel cleaner in place of Iron-X, but haven’t tried it.
