Good luck! The main thing is to catch it early. Makes a huge difference!

So sorry for your loss, Chris. Lost my dad in '99 to colon cancer. He was 74. I'm damned near there now. Just about to finish my 1st week of radiation for the prostate cancer.

Okay Ron. That's good. Our base was in Bien Hoa and we all found out about a decade ago that the officers' billets were right next to a dump where they dumped "empty" and partially emptied drums of Agent Orange. Many of my warrant officers who flew under me in Nam are badly stricken with all kinds of ailments, some to the point of having been wheelchair-bound for years. Until recently I had dodged the bullet. Glad you weren't there and exposed, but wanted to make sure that if you were, that you were aware of your VA benefits.

Hope your high reading turns out to be an infection or anything other than the cancer. But if it doesn't brother, be thankful you're getting at it early.

Just got back from my Urologist. Monthly blood work is normal. Has been since I started them. Looking pretty good so far. I go off Zytiga in May. If blood works remain normal after that I'm cured according to the Doc. Picked up $30K 90 day supply of pills. 360 pills. Fun times.....

I'm curious as to how many have gotten their PSA tests with their annual physical since I started this thread. Even significant others/friends/relatives you may have told.

I'll be turning 50 in February. My doctor has been doing a PSA test every year since I've been seeing him. Still normal, but get to do the long awaited and somewhat dreaded colonoscopy soon.

Glad to hear you're almost considered cured!!

I think I heard or read somewhere the V.A starts testing at 45 years old. Not sure, I need to find out, I think this just started recently.

I know what you are talking about. I had a t.u.r.p. done on my prostate almost 3 yrs ago. I have had prostititis for 8 yes now and it is awful! You wake up most mornings to start the day and it is like someone kicks you between the legs and that starts your day! I when to my urologist yesterday and the infection is back. I will be on strong antibiotics for the next 2 months and we will see from there.he said he may have to do another t.u.r.p. ( that is going in your prostate and cleaning it out with some kind of tools.worst 2 weeks of my life afterwards but it did fix the problem). He said the other alternative is to remove the prostate! I am only 50 yrs old and very healthy but ,sometimes that doesn't matter If you are having problems don't put it off! Get checked!

Not really sure why I haven’t posted in this thread yet, as my dad has been fighting an agressive form of prostate cancer for the last 19 years. It was originally discovered by PSA test when he was only 46, and it has been an up and down battle ever since. Hormone treatments, surgery, radioation, more hormone therapy... When he was first diagnosed I was in my late teens, and at that time he said his goal was to hold his grandkids. That seemed so far off at the time. He has 4 grandsons now, from 10 to 6 years old, and he just turned 65 earlier this month.

But this past week we found out that his cancer has spread into his bones in multiple places, which explains the back and shoulder pain he has been experiencing and things are sounding bleak, to be frank. Medications we changed in an effort to slow the progress once again. Knowing for a long time this might eventually happen doesn’t really prepare you for when it does. A CT scan was done on Friday, and I think we’ll know more soon.

In the meantime he’s getting one heck of a birthday present on Monday, and it isn’t a material thing. More along the lines of family memories and an experience. More about that later.

I hope this doesn’t bring any discouragement or negativity to you guys that are fighting this battle, as that is not my intent. Make the most of every day, growing old is a privilege that is denied to many.

Many people don't understand until they or a loved one goes through these things. I am really impressed with the reactions and understanding with the people on this site! Regardless what people think, there are still understanding and considerate people in the world!

Thanks Ron. His birthday was actually on the 8th, but he was working at his fly-in camp job so we had to delay the fesitivities until tommorow, and the “present” happens on Monday. I’ll post about that with photos afterward.

Will pass along the happy birthday though, and be sure to have a happy one as well. Even if it means going back to your old rowdy self for the day. :D

My son and my son-in-law are both in their late 40s, so I'm hoping that my cancer experience has been an incentive for them to take care to be tested regularly, starting any time now. I'm 6 weeks out of my radiation therapy, and still having a bladder urgency issue. Ain't nobody telling me, "You can hold it." LOL

First follow-up with the oncologist in mid-November.

Sorry about your dad Phil. Battling 19 years? Sheesh. I'm on 1 1/2 years. I have a very aggressive type myself. If radiation doesn't work I could be in the same boat as your dad. I'm 62 so I hope I can hang on for 19. Prayers to you and family.

My bladder is pretty much normal again. It does take a couple months to get to the new normal. Ask your oncologist to prescrip FlowMax. Crazy name since it's helps urgency and sleep gets a Hell of a lot better. I used to get up 4 times or more at night. Beer didn't help with the situation much....
