I picked up mine in March. $999 from Cabela's. 1st time out shooting it had massive ftf issues. The bolt would cycle but it wouldn't chamber a round.
I ended up putting about 80 rounds down range before it pissed me off. And that factory stock hurts. So I threw a Nikon scope on and some magpul furniture. I bought the wrong handguard so I'm waiting on a new one. Also picked up 10 pmags and 1000 rounds of .308. I got it semi sighted in, it's hard to sight in with no bags, blocks, or bi-pod. Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

A buddy of mine had an m&p handgun cant recall the model but he was shooting at the range & the slide fell apart. Not sure if it was poor assembly or poor quality

At this point i am going to get rid of both of my AR-10/15 builds, first time out the 15 failed to load 3 times in one mag...
    I will be getting a PTR-100 and maybe a PDWR PTR 203
Another gun I have thought about is the CZ Scorpian

I have 4 with consecutive serial numbers (like 1,2,3,4.). Got them on sale at a local gun show. They are really nice, but, I haven’t fired any of them. They are an investment right now.

It could be a number of things on the cycling issue. Did you clean and lube the gun before you shot it for the first time? The grease they ship it with isn't meant to stay on the gun. Next step is to try different mags. I run pmags in my ar10 and haven't had any issues. If it's still short stroking, send it to s&w or check you local gun forums, there's always someone that'll offer to help get it running.

Bags and bi pods are cheap, buy them. You'll waste more money in ammo without them than it'll cost to purchase them upfront. I use a lead sled or stinger from Caldwell to sight in or text new loads.

I have a CMMG MK3, never had any issues with FF/FTF.
I did have an issue with a 6.5 Grendel bolt assembly that I bought. Got it home cleaned it really well put it together then soaked it in some Mobil1 for a couple of days. Never had a problem since. Most feed issues are magazine related, followed by gas.
If you are using Maylasian or Turkish surplus ammo this may also cause problems. Some guns dont like cheap ammo.

I have a .308, 556 and a couple grendel's and they all run perfect. I don't run a lot of surplus ammo thru them tho. I shoot more for groups and technique than mag dumps at 20 yds.

I also had a s&w sport that was well used and never had any issues from it. I almost bought a mp10 or r25 but decided on a ddm5 instead.

I forgot to mention, bipods are ok, I prefer plane old sand bags or socks tightly packed with beans. Easy to shape, cheap to replace, great for shooting from. Technology is nice, simplicity is better.

    Initial thoughts:
    - did you clean it before you shot it?
    - did you lube it well before you shot it?
    - are you using quality ammo?

Not doing the above can easily lead to failures on a new gun. No offense, but the comment that a 308 semi auto hurts when you shoot it makes me think you might be a newer shooter, so hitting the basics above is where I would start.

Like said above new ARs need to be cleaned and oiled and no reason to be shy with the oil.

A temperamental rifle can be a real pisser!

I got a Stag AR10 about a year ago that had similar issues.
Thinking lube would help , I had that sucker dripping wet to no avail.
A knowledgeable Vet I was shooting with showed me that the extractor/ spring was super tight and barely movable so I took the extractor apart while field stripping the BCG. There was some factory gunk in the mechanism. Reassembled and cycled much better. He also said to just load 10 in the 20 rd pmag ( less drag on the BCG) for the first 500 or so rounds to break in that heavy extractor.
He also said dry that rifle out!
A little lube is ok , but too much will foul up from all the carbon residue and get "muddy" to coin a phrase...he ran his ARs almost bone dry.
It's bee running fine ever since! And passed the 500 with full mags!

The M&P 10 is a fine stout .308 that should serve you well...be patient and work on breaking it in.

Yeah, after the first outing I strips and cleaned it. Loved the hell out of it then cycled the bolt about 100 times. It ran better on the 2nd time shooting but still has ftf issues. Need to run more rounds through it to break in that spring I guess.

999??? I would have just built one and got better quality. That's my opinion though. Have you looked at Aero .308's? That's what i'm building.

One more thought on this issue: try a box or two of another brand of ammo and see how it cycles.

I say this because in my first few hundred factory rds. I bought, the bullet was not seated in the casing as deeply, with them being almost a 1/16" longer round ( that's quite a lot in bullet specs) , than subsequent rds I've purchased...that probably had a lot to do with the FTFs...sorry I forgot to mention that.

So You bought an AR10 and took it to the range without cleaning or lubing first. It jammed a bunch so you spent a bunch of money on a scope and furniture. Is that about right?

There is no AR spring that needs to be broken in. Springs get weaker with use not stronger.

i got a Armalite AR-10A4 carbine with a trigicon acog TA11H-308G scope,, never has a feed problem, I run cheap surplus as well as good stuff, no problems. You might be having a feed ramp problem. here is what you need to do.

Kind of. Scope and furniture were gonna happen anyways. The cleaning and lubing before the first shoot was ignorance on my part.

It’s frustrating when you buy a nice rifle and it won’t run My friend has one and it didn’t like the pmags he was using. You could send it back to smith and Wesson and they would probably tune it up for you for free. But you would be out the shipping cost. Maybe cabelas. Can make it right with you ? I have never tryed taking a gun back so don’t know how that would work out let us know how it turned out. B0ECC205-AF70-47BB-BE31-945291216B03.jpg

Check the gas block. Built a friend a AR-15 Pistol and would not run at all. Ammo I used ran great in mine. Even the cast lead bullets. So played with it a little and had the Allen wrenches to adjust the gas block alignment. Second time I moved it a little bit the stars and heaven lined up and now it runs like a scalded ape. Eats anything. Was off just enough to eject the empty, but not enough to grab another. ( short stroking). I also do as parallax, feed ramps always get polished up and matched to the upper. Cleaner feeding. I also agree with trying a different brand of ammo.
