I picked up a new to me 91 taurus SHO+ back in March. Being new here I figured I'd SHO if off here.
Just picked it up. You can see my gf's 15 SHO, "turbopig part 2", in the background.

    IMG_20180312_165110290.jpg

"Ironman", the 02 tundra and "Bessie", the 13 e250 work van in the background.
    IMG_20180312_165132478_TOP.jpg

The interior has held up well. Just needs a scrubbing and leather treatment.
    IMG_20180312_165155309_HDR.jpg

    Mismatched paint/powdercoating. Nice.
    IMG_20180312_165059111.jpg

A little tight in the garage.
    IMG_20180317_215528431.jpg
    IMG_20180317_215514559.jpg

    Intake removed.
    IMG_20180407_181804776.jpg

    Oil in the plugwells. Awesome.
    IMG_20180407_181848181.jpg

Rear valve cover COVERED in oil. Bad cam seals. Also awesome.
    IMG_20180407_181908273.jpg
    IMG_20180407_194216343.jpg

Inside of the valve covers. Bad plug well deals and covered in RTV. Smells heavily of gasoline.
    IMG_20180407_194234547.jpg

    And the uncovered head.
    IMG_20180407_184630573.jpg

I've called him "broke pig". He needs a full 120k service so I'm just waiting on a water pump and CPS to tear into the front of the motor. Once that's in I can replace those, the timing belt and tensioner, cam sensor(which I just replaced on ironman), and put it all back together. Then I get to do a valve adjustment and replace shims as needed. The intake and valve covers are getting hot tanked the powder coated. Probably gloss black, haven't decided. Then on to suspension, brakes......everything.

I had a 91 SHO. Loved that car. Nice combination of sedan and sportiness. Thing was pretty fast for cars at the time and fairly luxurious.

This is my 5th SHO. I love em. My gf's 15 is the epitome of a sleeper. You can't beat 4 doors and mid 13's. Plus when you pull the recirculation tubes of the BOVs you get cool turbo noises.

    Update:
Since the motor was apart I had to tow it to my new house.

    20181006_105516.jpg

Uncleaned next to clean. That was almost 3 hours of work.
    20181019_192641.jpg

That's most of the RTV I pulled off the 1st valve cover. Damn.
    20181019_192722.jpg

Started getting dark and I don't have a garage. Improvise, adapt, overcome.
    20181019_194438.jpg

My workspace is in close proximity to those worked upon. Yup, it's the tundra's tailgate.
    20181019_194449.jpg

Uncleaned rear VC next to cleaned front VC.
    20181019_195935.jpg

My new work space for the intake manifold.
    20181019_210922.jpg

Throttle body is off. Let's keep going.
    20181019_212902.jpg

    Partial disassembly.
    20181019_221302.jpg

    Fully disassembled.
    20181019_224404.jpg

    Time for a thorough cleaning!
    20181019_225719.jpg

Still so much to do; for the SHO and the tundra. :spending:
    20181019_231509.jpg

Another view of the interior work space. Glad I'm not married anymore!

You killin me with the dishwasher as parts washer lol. Not sure if I want my dinner plates and pint glasses washed with my greasy, oily, full of chemical cleaners and solvents engine parts. Might want to run it a time or two or 5 with nothing in there to make sure you get all the grime/chemicals/solvents oily crap out of the dish washer.

Good luck with the restoration, never was much of a Ford man, but the 1st gen Taurus SHO was pretty bitching. About the closest thing you had to that car at the time was a BMW 5 series, but you had to order the V8 to match the SHO's acceleration, and those were like double the price. Maybe a 2nd gen Acura Legend, those looked cool but were a bit more luxury oriented, very few sedans had the manual. GM had jack diddly crap in terms of real performance options on the W-body sedan, Dodge made a valid attempt with the Spirit R/T turbo that provided similar quick performance in a god awful ugly package IMO.

I'd also say 1st gen Lexus GS300, but they were slower, we never got the 2JZ-GTE Supra motor like Japan did, and even then they were automatic only and version we got was slower than a SHO(and much more expensive).

You know your cars, my good sir! The 89 SHO did give the BMW 5 series a run for its money. The spirit r/t was an awesome car, as well as the omni hlhs, and the likewise. I've liked the gs[400] since the grand turismo 2 days. Funny thing is is that a few of the gs lexus's have the same motor(albeit but different) my tundra has, if I'm thinking right. Thank you very much for the input! It's good to know there's a few people out there who know what a SHO is. I'd say I wish there were more, but that would defeat the purpose!

Also, dont worry about the dish washer, I'm single and it's a rent house. I've used it once in the 2 months I've lived here.

I forgot I worked on the SHO a bit more.

Got the RIGHT plug wires this time.
    20181102_194349.jpg

    Not exactly factory length.

    Intake manifold set back on.
    20181102_203303.jpg

All bolted down and put back together. I lost the TPS screws so couldn't start it.(I did, but had to hold the tps in place.)
    20181103_000630.jpg

Well, at least it's back on the ground.

    20181103_150818.jpg

So pretty much I did an oil change(and a new drain bolt/gasket), partial radiator fluid change, new IM gaskets all around, new plugs and wires, new VC gaskets and plug well seals, and new belts. Now that I have a decent base to work with I can start fixing some more stuff on it. Next I think is the crank sensor, front main, oil pan gasket/rtv, and water pump/thermostat. Probably a few rounds of flushing the radiator. And this bitch is LOUD. It's got an aftermarket y-pipe with full magnaflow exhaust. I like it. It's also got full length sub frame connectors so it rides a bit stiff with the 225/35 18s. I dont know when I'll get around to working on it again, the tundra needs a little love now. But I'll put more up as I go.

I've got all new suspension parts. Timing belt, water pump, tstat ready to go. New $200(!) crank sensor on the war along with a rod shifter upgrade. I'm thinking about picking up a 92 with tons of upgrades and swapping them over to this one and taking the 92 to stock and selling it.

Well hell. I ended up buying a non-running 92 with a bunch off good parts, and just drove back from Indianapolis this weekend with another 91+ I bought. I think I have a problem. Both cars have a lot of good parts, including obsolete parts you cant find anymore.

92 with intake off. It's been sitting 10 years.

The old 91 decided to destroy the TOB at 7k rpm a few weeks back. I bought the 92 in Jan for the Quaife LSD it has as well as a Cluthmasters clutch. Then the new 91 came up for sale and I had to. Flew to Indianapolis and drove it back to Amarillo this weekend. 1000 miles. So the new 91 will get the Quaife and maybe the black interior in the other 91. So many options!
