Does anyone had an issue with their radio just going black and just being completely unresponsive? The only thing that is working is Bluetooth but my screen and controls aren’t doing anything.

I've had some similar issues with the usb port and the xm radio, the dealership is a joke. They are pointing their finger at XM and XM is pointing the finger at Toyota and I am left holding the bag in the middle. I am currently looking at a new aftermarket stereo/gps unit to replace it with. So far I am leaning towards the Kenwood being the GPS software is Garmin. Sad part is on a $51k truck, I shouldn't have to. I should have stayed with Chevy. Yes I know I am going to get some backlash for that belief, next truck will be.

I have major problems with mine since I bought my truck in 2016. They replaced it twice after doing several updates each time but they wouldn' replace it the third time. Now the warranty has expired so they want to charge me for a problem that was never fixed. They blamed it on my cell phone, saying that it was incompatible and was causing the problems, but the problems happened no matter what brand of phone and even when there was no phone connected. Problems include
    1. Randomly rebooting over and over again.
    2. Erasing destination on navigation while reroute, and of course you cannot reenter the address unless you come to a complete stop
    3. If you are listening to an HD radio station it skips the audio back and forth as if listening to a scratched CD
    4. During phone calls, it will sometimes make a loud buzzing sound, almost like an alarm/horn, then dropped the call and reboot.
    5. Voice command never works properly, ever
    Very frustrated, very dissatisfied

In search of tonneau and bed liner ...
Which mobile phone are you using. I'm having a similar issue with and I have an iPhone 6Plus. I just updated my radio firmware via etunes this week. So far it's only rebooted 1x.

I have the same issue as you Maverick. I currently have the iPhone X and my radio constantly reboots or disconnects from my phone. It is also hit or miss if my radio rings while connected when someone calls me.

Understand your frustration. I wouldn’t use a radio as persuasion to leap into another brand. They all have their issues and a radio seems minor to me.
Hope you get it fixed to your satisfaction.

For what it’s worth I have a Kenwood head unit and have no issues.

I have never owned an Iphone and everyone who comment with similar problems seem to have very similar phones so I could see why the dealer would say that. the bluetooth is an active function everytime a phone is detected even when listening to a radio station the bluetooth is active in the background. My suggestion is unpair the phone from the radio for a couple of days to see if the issue happens again. If does not pair an android phone to isolate if is the radio's bluetooth or the iphone.

The radio will probably work great while you’re sitting there on the side of the road with your Chevy

Actually the two Silverado's I owned prior to the Tundra were both solid trucks.

This might be a stretch but my radio freaks out if there are multiple BT devices that are linked with the phone happen to be simultaneously "ON" and attempting to host. I have several Fit Bit BT head sets that I use throughout the day... And I use them for calls while driving (Factory hands free will not work with any window/sunroof open during a call) so, the point is that the radio fights the headset for hosting and I get blacked out from my radio and the phone (Pixel2 XL) even though they are correctly set up for what the devices are used for. Maybe there's more to the puzzle... But honestly if you want it to actually work right, you need to gut ithat factory shit out and go aftermarket.... Sucks but true.

I’m having this issue on my 2018 Tundra, and I had this issue in my 2014 Tacoma. There is a software defect that Toyota needs to fix on these head units. Mine will often reboot when my gps is going to say something that goes through Bluetooth to the head unit. Speech to text will almost always initiate a crash and reboot. I have an iPhone 7.
