I actually tried this last year I had the sling and Netflix but after about 2 months I came running back to cable the one and only reason I went back to cable is for live sports you can not watch any laker games on hulu/sling or any other provider the 1 and only way is to have spectrum they have a contract that doesn't allow any other service to broadcast laker games I even had the NBA all access pass that allows you to watch any games you want except laker games

PS Vue/Skystream X/Netflix for over a year now. No regrets

PS Vue is great for sports; Up to 5 tv's (devices) for about 62.00 month for elite package or whatever they call it

I've been off it for about 3 yrs now. Don't miss cable at all. I have Netflix and Amazon and if I want local, I just buy the HD antena. Save about $1000 a year. I'll use that towards other things like food or the new truck on the way.

    I. Hate. Commercials. Cut the cable TV a long time ago. I get 7 tv channels for news and Amazon, Netflix for most other things. Some good streaming sites out there for old movies and shows and some newer movies as well.

The main reason I don’t have it is because of the cost, losing $100-130 a month to a satellite bill isn’t something I wanna do right now. But once I’m taking Home more I’ll consider it again. Currently have Netflix and Amazon, and am pretty happy with em. I’ll head to the bar if the Broncos game is on.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but you can buy an antennae (size and thickness of a file folder) and hook it up to your tv. Antennae hangs on wall or near window. You can also do a smaller version of the old school antennae and put it on you roof top. All kinds of options.

Now the reason I’m telling you this is because the antennae reception and clarity is far superior than a cable in line. We switched to ROKU (an conversion smart box for non-smart tv’s) that allows the apps like Amazon, Hulu, etc. We cut cable years ago because it was so expensive and the programming crappy. It got to the point that I only watched History Channel and then when they went full social justice warrior programming I couldn’t handle it anymore.

The antennae allows you to get all the alphebet channels (super clear your be blown away). The RoKu converts your tv to smart tv.

Now I watch mostly Youtubes of the old recorded shows of History Channel and how to vids on fixing trucks. NO COMMERCIALS!!!

believe me I thought the same thing but after heading to a bar or restaurant to watch the game a few times I would walk out of there spending around $60-$70 dollars each time if I do that 2 times a month im at about $130 so I went back to cable to be able to watch any game from the comfort of my home and my beers ;)

Damn, and I thought I had a problem ;) luckily the bar that’s 5 blocks from my house has my beer for only $3 or so, so the max I’ve spent there is like $24 without the tip.

I use TekkHosting. No customer support, but as long as you've got Youtube you'll be good. They're the same company that NitroTV uses.

Is RealDebrid a online downloader? I have Plex which works really good, but haven't even used that much since I hooked up with Terrarium. All this cheap TV takes time away from Tundy :smack:

I just signed up for Direct TV streaming for $40 a month. It includes all the local channels and cable channels and I can watch it on any device. This way I can watch sports on my commute on the train. And when I'm home, I can Chromecast it to the TV.

Sell the Chromecast and buy a Amazon FireTV. It's far better with the DirecTV Now app on the Amazon Device because you can change the channel and adjust the volume directly.

Real Debrid allows terrarium tv access to a lot more sources and pretty much guarantees you will not have buffering issues.

Well, I'm at the point where my UVerse contract is up and I'm looking at cancelling and going the HD antenna route. I have a couple of questions though.

What antenna are you guys using? What would you buy now if you were doing it all over again?

Also, I have three TV's throughout the house. Is there a way to split and distribute the signal from one antenna to all of the TV's?

I used the below indoor antenna for a bit when I cut the cord. There are non-branded clones of the same exact antenna out there that work just as good. I was about 20 miles from the antenna farm that's south of Dallas in Cedar Hill. Nice strong signals. Connection is for one TV. It's about $20. https://www.rcaantennas.net/indoor-hd-antenna/?sku=ANT1052F

You can get a decent exterior antenna for $40-60 and stick it on the roof or in the attic. I did that at my last house and just hooked it right up to the cables that ran to the rooms that were already there for the satellite dish.

    This is what I have:

GE Pro Attic Mount TV Antenna, Outdoor, Attic, Long Range Antenna, Digital, HDTV Antenna, 4K 1080P VHF UHF, Compact Design, 29884 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MYMVPVX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_FVMWCbP0YEGF9

Mine is in the attic and it's pointed through a lot of obstacles, but it does a really good job of picking up all the signals in my area. Sometimes it'll cut out on some channels when the weather is really bad, but overall it's great. You can also mount it outside (just make sure to ground it if you do), which I'm sure would greatly increase performance.

If you want to run the signal to multiple rooms you'd just need a coaxial splitter, but if the runs are really long you might want to look into a signal booster as well.

Yes, use your existing cable runs but swap out your basic splitter with a CM3414 amplified splitter.

Before you do that, input your particulars here and see what kind of stations you can get to see if it’s worth setting up.

    https://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29

Line of site in the general direction is important. Landforms and buildings will block reception, trees will reduce it.

You can confirm your TVfool results by using a simple 4bay antenna connected to your highest TV upstairs with ~15ft of regular RG6 cable. Tape it to a step ladder, have someone hold it etc, point it at the station(s) based on your TVf report, and do a channel scan. Almost all flat panel TVs in the last decade have a built-in ATSC tuner to scan.

If you’re lucky, you’ll have affiliate major networks around you to pick up, at 720p, some 1080i (I don’t bother saving grainy analog stations, either it comes in clear digital HD or not).

Once you confirm you can catch some networks, you can make your setup permanent in your attic or on a satellite j-pole outside. You can combine antennas if you need to point in different directions called “ganging” by simply using a basic reverse splitter. The single line coming from both, or from a single antenna can also be amplified using a CM7777 or 7778. The line then goes to the splitter I first mentioned. So instead of a cable line feeding it previously, your antenna(s) feed it.

This is a 4bay antenna by Channel Master, clones will work the same. Buy one for testing that you can return if it doesn’t work out.

    5F5C49AF-C22C-4143-AC25-464380F74517.jpg

OTA HD is legal and how networks reach rural areas.

    Good luck!

So that brings up another question. I have cable internet as well, but I'm not sure if it's on a dedicated cable or not. If it's using the house cable are the two compatible or will I need to run a dedicated antenna cable?

Obstacles was another question. Here's the map of the broadcast towers from my general location. The LoS cuts directly thru downtown and all of the skyscrapers and other tall buildings. Is this going to kill the signal?

    Here's the report: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id=9038c5ddaae2f0

Since my LoS cuts directly thru downtown and a ton of tall buildings I'm not sure this option is going to work. Bummer.

Actually I put in my address to get a more exact LoS and it looks like I will skirt the whole downtown area by a few blocks. So it looks like game on again, woot!

Are there no wireless solutions? I'd like to go directly from the antenna to a DVR receiver, then into my router and broadcast out to the other TV's (or to a receiver that connects to each TV) in the house if possible. Anyone done something like that yet?

You have some great channels there within your LOS... NBC, ABC, CBS, CW, Fox within 20miles. It depends where they are transmitting from. Often they’re off the tallest buildings downtown. Does that distance put you going through downtown or roughly around the same distance? If the latter, it’s worth a shot. LOS is a factor when say an apartment building or hill is right in front of you, not at a distance. I’m near Toronto and getting stations from Buffalo, I’m sure there’s buildings in my path but none close up.

Yes, you can run the signal through an HDHomerun device, connected to your router and watch on mobile devices, on TVs I’m not sure, mine are all wired. The TV needs a way to receive Wi-Fi data from the HDH and an app to separate the channels like it would on an iPad or Android tablet.

I have cable internet as well. It runs directly to a modem, then my router. I can’t remember how I had cable TV, but that cable was disconnected from the splitter and I fed the cable from my attic into it. Since that line is long because my splitter is in the basement, I have a preamp, and a splitter amp I mentioned above. You can’t boost a signal that’s not there, why you do a test with one TV and a short run first. The antenna will pickup through walls, the higher the better.
