Land Cruiser guy, thinking about a Tundra

As the title says, I'm a Cruiser guy and have been since 1993. I use to do a lot of off roading but a couple years ago really got into bass fishing and a lifted Cruiser is not the best to tow a 20' bass boat with. I also have a DC Tacoma that is my DD and what I currently pull my boat with but the boat is a little much for it, especially stopping. I sold my 100 series Cruiser this past week and I'm looking for a 2007 or newer crew max, 4x4. I found a 2007 Limited crew max with 180,000 miles, Icon suspension, ARE topper, aftermarket front bumper with a 9500 lb winch and a few other mods that I can buy for $15,000. For now that's about all I want to spend because I'm going to keep my Taco. My buddy swears I'll quit driving the Tacoma after I buy a Tundra but I need to make sure before I turn it loose because I love that truck. I pulled the service records on the Tundra and it has a good history of dealer service. It spent about 2 years in Louisville, Ky and then south to east Tennessee which is where I live. He said he had to have the AC charged this spring so he's thinking a small leak, any suggestions of that? I'm use to 12 MPG and at least with the Tundra I would have the power that the Cruiser didn't have with the 4.7.

The only thing on the Tundra I hate are the 20" Rock Star wheels. I'm old school, like more tire than wheel so would probably find some Rock Warriors and mount some 315s on them.

Here's the Cruiser I just sold and my current TRD Off Road Tacoma.

Nice LC. Welcome. Can’t go wrong with a Tundra. Make sure to get a 5.7. Wheels are easy to find and Change. Sounds like a solid deal.

Welcome from CO. The 5.7 pulls my Lund 18 foot boat like it’s not even back there.
Good luck. Post up some pics if you buy it.

Welcome from TX, that's a bad ass looking LC. If you like the interior space of the LC over the Tacoma, you will appreciate the Tundra.

You can get them with 18" wheels stock. I agree with you about the 20" bro-dozer wheels with rubber band tires.

Yes sir, the one I'm looking at has the 5.7. My buddy told me as much as I like the 4.7, get the 5.7. The 4.7 is a heck of an engine and will go forever but not a lot of power. The Cruiser I had before this one I had 35s on it and wound up having to re-gear to 4.88 because the loss of power. I'm assuming the 5.7 and stock gear would handle 35s and 37s fine?

While I'm at it, here's a couple Crusiers I built from stock rigs over the last couple years. First was a 1998 100 series with rear e-locker and 2nd is a 1993 FZJ80 with factory front and rear diff locks. Both belonged to soccer moms when I found them.

    Welcome from CO.

It does fine with 35s. I re-geared to 4.88s, mo better, I am running 35s. Holds 6th gear a heck of a lot longer here in the hills and mountains of CO. Seldom drops down to 4th, unless I put my foot into it.
The 4.30s work fine with 35s, just reiterating that.

Man that 80 was my favorite also. When I bought it I had to have it towed 3 hours to my house from Chattanooga, one of the front wheel bearings was shot and both front knuckles we throwing grease. All but the front bumper were custom fabricated buy a local guy out of Maryville, TN and it turned better than I had planned. Since then she's made two trips from North Carolina to Moab with the new owner.

I own a 2015 Taco and a 2018 Crewmax. It sounds like you're no stranger to the shop and have the tools to work on things. I traded a 2012 sequoia with 135k on my new tundra. It was bulletproof. I replaced 1 cv joint... That's it. Gas, oil, brakes, tires, and I changed the trans fluid 2x, front & read diff, and transfer all twice. That truck never even coughed. I guess in the tundras there's a cam seal that is know to leak in the engine. My pops had a 2011, and just traded for a 2018. If this helps he swapped while in Florida and they gave him $23.5k for a 2011 crew max SR5 with 70k on a 5.7. They gave me $18k trade in on the sequoia, so as much as I hate to admit that used trucks with 150k are worth that, I guess that's a good price. FYI, you will like the tundra over the Taco. I still love my taco, but the mileage ain't that different. The ride and comfort are night and day. I kept the taco to preserve the tundra from the salt and winters of Ohio so I can get 10+ years out of it.

I would sell the taco and buy a much newer Tundra Limited or higher package truck with half the miles.
