That has never worked well in the past. Lol.

Our kitchen is her favorite thing inside the house. Homie ain’t going to mess that up.

I have to tell you I was feeling pretty proud of being able to install a nice hardwood floor, but, you all have made me feel like a piker! This was just laying the floor due to way more 7 foot boards than anything else. Plus I did not want to use a transition strip between the tile and wood. Lots of concrete grinding to get the wood to lay level with the tile.

Lots of nice looking work and good ideas on here- good job! I don’t have a before pic. Or even a clean house to take a now pic haha. We’re about 80% finished upstairs of our 1970’s home. I knocked two walls out around the kitchen and opened it up. Build a book shelf/pony walk around the stairwell opening instead of railing(not finished). New kitchen/floors everything that follows. I’m a red seal carpenter so this page is home to me:D This is the third house we’ve renovated. But first one with kids. Toddlers make renovating really hard for us haha. Next one I’ll be building new but that won’t be for a long while now most likely. Maybe this feed will motive me to finish some stuff here haha

Looks great! What type of wood did you use pine? And how did you fasten them to the wall?

We purchased our current house a couple of years ago. It was a foreclosure. We started tearing into it almost immediately and have pretty much gutted the inside. Here are just a few pictures of the kitchen work and installation of our rear 16' sliding glass door, and some of our fireplace refurbish. We have redone most things inside, including re-wiring most of the circuits (originally aluminum wiring - I decided that anytime a wall was opened up, we were going to replace everything with copper).

Also, I threw in some of the backyard work we did last summer to clear out the complete mess that was back there before. We finished the landscaping up front, but we are currently working on the back yard. I have some plans laid out for building a shed. Hope to start on that within the next couple of weeks.

I have more pics if you are interested.

Thanks! To be fair, I did contract most of the major construction stuff out. I have done a lot myself, but life is too busy to do everything. We did the majority of the work prior to moving in, which was nice. It was cool to be able to sit out on the new entertainment area near the shed last night. The curve in the concrete near the shed is going to eventually be a fire pit.

Happy 4th, everyone! I gotta go see if I can put the finishing touches on the shed framing before heading out for the day's activities.

Thanks, that is flattering. For about 19 years, I have worked as a mechanical engineer doing structural analysis for weapons. In the last year, I have been switching gears a little bit and work now more in weapon physics and safety. I do enjoy building things, and I often have side projects going on. Occasionally I have thought that it would be cool to get into general contracting/design/building, as while my day job is cool also, I rarely get to do anything "hands-on". But, grass is always greener, right? So, I try to get my "hands-on" fix by having projects at home.

Just for the heck of it, here are a few pics of one of the bathrooms we did. This one was the one that I did - I didn't contract this work out (except for movement of the plumbing under the slab for repositioning the shower. I don't have a "final" pic of it - but one that is pretty close to the final (we hadn't put up trim yet).

I have to replace two timber retaining walls because they have rotted. I need some ideas from you fine folks. So if you have a stone or block retaining walls please post some pictures.

Yes, I did install recessed lighting pretty much throughout the house with the exception of the bedrooms. They are LED, and we selected the warmest color that I could find for the LED lights. They are still pretty bright/harsh, though. I don't mind that for the ceiling in the bathrooms, but I did install extra lights around the vanities that are not LED. The ladies in the house appreciated that.

I agree about the restrooms - there really isn't a lot of room to maneuver.

    I would use these:

    https://www.redi-rock.com/large-blocks-gravity-retaining-walls.htm

These are 1100 lbs a piece, but look awesome, great for retaining walls, and for the price...can’t go wrong.

I may be able to get you these stones at around 45.00 each. I would have to check my supplier.

    Things needed:

    Skid steer rental for weekend.

Rent the block clamps to move and set stones.

Sand or old shingles for leveling stones.

I can put 10 on per trip on my trailer if you need help.

I have done a few of these. This was my old house, 6-7 pallets of pave stone.

I had an erosion company tear out my old rotten railroad tie wall and replace with a new stone wall almost three years ago. It is about 40' long and 3' high. They put sleeves in and grouted the fence post in. Not the best pics cause i dont want chigger bites wading through the tall grass on the back side. Hope this helps.20180704_164715.jpg 20180704_164633.jpg

Thanks Chris, I am definitely leaning towards the paver stone. I live in a cookie cutter neighborhood. I have been looking at designs off and on all day. I just need to figure out a design that I am happy with and start buying the materials. I'm off on Friday, while I wait for Safe Lite, I'll lay it out with stakes and string, as far as the design.
I think I need some beer to get the creative juices flowing.

Right on! The pavers are easy to handle. Once the dead men bricks are laid and level, it goes pretty quick after that.

If you need help hauling, I can put three pallets per trip on my trailer.

    Advice needed:

I have two opossums and a neighborhood cat that like to frequent my backyard at night and leave little surprises of shit everywhere :annoyed:

I also have several fruit trees and the opossums seem to love the peaches because they are always gone before we can pick them.

Any advice for keeping these punks away from my fruits and using my backyard as a toilet

Half the stuff I read seem to not work. I am thinking of putting those pigeon spikes around the fencing and fruit trees.

Additional info: I don’t have pets. I grew up with a dog but that was awhile ago. As much as I love dogs, I don’t intend on getting one. The irony is I don’t have pets but I’m still picking up animal crap :pout:

    Thanks guys!
