This is exactly the one I am looking at getting for my 20ft enclosed car hauler. 3500lb dry so will be close to 6000lb with vehicle and gear in it.

A WDH is the only way to go. I tow a lot and have been using one on all my trailers. Makes a big difference in sway, feel and security.

When towing a single axle light weight trailer, a weight distribution system may add (distribute) too much weight to your trailer's axle if you carry a heavy load in your bed. The weight in your bed and tongue gets distributed to the front of your vehicle and to the trailer's axle. Crawl under the trailer and look at the tag. It will tell you the maximum weight. Add it all up and see if you will be exceeding it's limit.

My little Wolf PUP 16BHS axle is limited to 3500 lbs. But the trailer's GVWR is 3917. How can this be? The manufacture states that 417 lbs of the 3917 is on the tongue, = 3500 on the axle. So if I load up my bikes in the bed and generator, etc, and use a WDS, I would overload my 3500 LB axle.

Don't let all the folks that swear about a WDS make your decision until you do all the math. Watch that video that was posted.

Therefore, I opted to install air bags to take out the sag. And a single sway bar to help control sway. It works great.

I ended up going cheap and ordered one off ebay for under $200 very similar to the design of the one at Harbor Freight. It would not fit my trailer though due to the depth of the v-nose, well without modification. Since I did not get the WDH until a day before I left on my 2800 mile trip I opted to just follow the advise of others here and just make sure the trailer was loaded as best as could be. So my trailer is 3500# dry, add in a 2100# car (verified on the scales ;) ) and another 500# of gear I was right around 6100#. It took a little adjusting to get the weight right, moving the car backwards and forwards, but in the end I got it "pretty dang close". I was able to make the 2800 mile round trip from Mississippi to New York, then down through DC, and Atlanta finally ending up back home with zero issue. I will say the "suck" is real when bigger vehicles pass you and for that I would have liked to have at least anti-sway but overall I was happy with the way the truck pulled it. I will probably still end up getting the anderson somewhere down the line just for the simple design and I know not all loads will be as adjustable as my car in the trailer.

I am getting ready to purchase a 26 foot travel trailer and wondering if I need air bags installed for my Tundra. I have a two inch lift on my truck. It is a 2013 5.7l. Thank you all very much for the help.

You will be happy with bags. It will help keep the trucks nose down.
Id go with firestone airbags and daystar cradles. I actually plan to.

    What suspension?

I got Boss airbags with onboard compressor to tow but I have the Pro Suspension on which is really soft. Made towing / hauling way better but the Pro Suspension not made to adjust for the increase distance. Ride is a little bouncier (not a lot but I notice).

I'm towing a cargo trailer, which I suspect to be 3,000lbs. I'm going to weigh it as soon as I get my hitch dialed in. In playing with an empty trailer today, the trailer drops my rear 1". With the weight dist. Hitch, it drops 3/4". It has a 1000lb tongue rating. That's not much difference. Honestly, with no load, I expected little to no change at all. This is with the unit fully angled forward, which I understand to be maximum lift. I'm using 6 links, but there's no way I could hook 5 unless there's a technique I'm unaware of. Will it perform better with a load or is there something I'm missing.

    Brand of WDH?
Any WDH should still sag the rear if properly setup, but it should also level the truck. The goal is to lower the front close to unloaded height. A WDH does just that, distributes the weight equally between both axles on the tow vehicle.

I guess we will have to see what it does loaded then, as the front doesnt really change with this trailer empty.

Need to measure and record front and rear truck axles, height of wheel well to hub.
    -record truck with no trailer.
-truck plus trailer without WDH hooked up.
    -truck plus trailer with WDH.

Yeah, I did all that...but I measured fender well to ground.

    No trailer 39 3/4 back
    38 ³/⁴ front

    W/trailer 38 ³/4 back
    38 3/4

    Weight dist: 39 back

According to that you have too much WD. The front shouldn't end up lower with WD than it is unladen entirely.

I would mess around with height of the ball and then go back to WD setup.

A trailer will always squat your Tundra a bit. If the front end doesn't rise when the trailer is connected you most likely don't need a WD hitch. Keep in mind a decent WD hitch weighs approximately 100 lbs. so that is adding to the squat in the rear end. With the weight of your trailer being only 3000 lbs. your tongue weight should be approximately 12-15% of the weight of the trailer when adjusted or loaded correctly. Most likely all you need is a sway control system. It does of course all depend on what you are going to load into the trailer.

Your tongue weight is usually 10-15% of the Trailer weight as a general rule. If your tongue weight is a thousand lbs you have a problem. The weight of the trailer should be supported by the Trailer axles not the truck. Your tongue weight for a 3000 lb Trailer should be 300-450 lbs. my Trailer is 6000 lbs and has a tongue weight of 600-900lbs

Just saying it's rated for up to 1000lbs, not that it weighs 1000lbs.

Dont forget I was playing with the trailer unloaded. It seems the standard recommendation is a weight dist. Hitch for any load over 3000lbs.

    It's an eas lift hitch

I love my WD hitch. A bit more work but when set up correctly it’s so much more stable.

Yeah, that's a great video. I watched that one before I assembled it. What threw me off was the Curt video that said that the rear should also be within 1/2".

    Welcome from North Carolina!

Installed Firestone airbags on the Tundra May 2019, no lift on our Tundra. Tow a travel trailer that weighs in ready to camp about 4900 pounds and tongue weight about 460 pounds. Tundra weighs in about 6900 pounds with trailer attached, full 38 gallon fuel tank. Do not use a weight distribution hitch, but use a trailer electronic sway control device that activates trailer brakes if sway occurs.

Before towing without airbags, had a couple inches of rear sag with trailer connected (did not measure difference in front height) and when towing over interstates with rough pavement the ride was very rough in the Tundra.

Since installing airbags @ 20PSI with trailer connected rear end sag is minimal and ride is much improved over rough roads. Installed air valves at license plate and can add air with bicycle air pump if needed. When trailer is not connected run the air bags at 5PSI.

Highly recommend airbag installation for towing trailers!
