Our nice relaxing 3 day babymoon vacation has turned into an 8-10 week stay.
Here is the short version - wife was 30 weeks pregnant and experienced pain from the flight, we went to SHARP Mary Birch hospital for women to get checked out, 12 hours later she was having an emergancy C-section, baby was born on 8-23, weighing 2lbs 13oz. He is doing great so far and we are being told to plan for him to be in the NICU until the due date of late October. Wife gets discharged tomorrow. We are on the list to get into the Ronald McDonald house, hopefully before Friday (a friend paid for 4 nights of hotel stay for us). My parents are driving out my Tundra and our clothes next weekend so we can stay for several weeks

Let me know if there are any meets around San Diego. Also looking for more recommendations of things to do and places to see (preferably free or low cost)

Congratulations, Momma and Dad! I'm sorry about the early arrival- that is not ideal under any circumstances; however, better in San Diego than a lot of other cool vacation spots you may have considered. I delivered at Mary Birch and can vouch for the extraordinary care there (and also, our Children's Hospital is top-rate).

I'd be pleased to visit or to bring you emergency supplies (Wednesday, after my work week concludes) if you PM me your requests.

Also, as it happens, we DO have a semi-local meet-and-play planned:

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/9-8-18-big-bear-gvl-run.28694/

It's a bit of a drive... a couple hours away from the hospital, but it's a couple weeks out, so it might work if things settle down for Baby Cfinke between now and then. If it's too far, we can probably put together a social meet-up (no off-roading) closer to where you'll be.

    Love to your Baby Momma!

Congrats! Glad to hear mom and baby are in good shape.

I'm with Sunny, PM me if there's anything we can bring you. I work not five minutes up the road from Rady Children's/Sharp MB. She is right, that is a top-notch facility and you're in very capable hands.

    Liberty Station
La Jolla Cove (cliffs, beach, seals, free)
    Coronado
    Don't forget breweries!

..and if it works out, we're going to meet up about 30 mins north of you for the drive to Big Bear on 9/8. In light of your current situation, I'd say that's a long shot, but we're worried that no one will show up ;) so the more the merrier.

    Some stuff
congrats! you're in good hands over there.

all of these are good spots. i would add...
    - wanderings in seaport village
    - the boardwalk in mission beach
    - low tide strolls at la jolla shores. i'd recommend staying south of scripps pier unless you want more than your fill of unappetizing full moon views...
    - glider port
    - cabrillo national monument (great tide pooling at the bottom of the hill)
    - people watching in OB
    - point loma seafood
    - corvette diner
    - if you can swing it, and there's a decent band, date night at the belly up. if you're a reggae fan and still in the area, common sense is playing on 9/22
    - pizza night at pizza port
    - sunset tacos and margs at las olas

if we were still living there, i'd make sure the door was open and cold beer was in the fridge for you.

    SUNDAY BRUNCH OPTIONS:

    Cheapest
decent Sunday brunch is at the 94th Aero Squadron on Balboa Dr. (very near the hospital complex), $29.95 between 9-10 a.m., $5 more after that. If it's not foggy, watch airplanes at Montgomery field. Arrive early and find free parking for the Tundra in the parking lot!
    https://www.94thsandiego.com/menus/online-menu/brunch-menu

Our favourite brunch overall is at the Catamaran. Best seafood! Sit outside and watch people walk, skate, and bicycle by along the San Diego Bay.

This brunch includes a buffet AND an entré. Locals hint: as long as you can get back to a fridge afterward, enjoy all the buffet food and champagne you want (with your choice of juices to mix), then order your entré about a half hour before you're ready to leave. Take it to go-- and now your slightly pricey brunch includes a very good dinner (I always choose prime rib.)

Don't pull into the hotel parking lot-- it'll be crowded, expensive, and has tiny parking stalls; instead, park the Tundra on one of the side streets in the neighborhood north of the hotel. Lots of access points to walk in to the hotel, where you'll find the restaurant at the southeast area of the property. If you want to treat your family for delivering you supplies, I'd recommend this place!!
    https://www.catamaranresort.com/dining-entertainment/oceana-san-diego-restaurant

Runner up for ocean views and sea food is Tom Hamm's Lighthouse. Can't match the Catamaran for fresh seafood (and no entré take-out option), but if I didn't know about the Catamaran I'd like this.
    https://www.tomhamslighthouse.com/

There's a bunch of really good, not so expensive, locals favourites, places to get healthy/ or authentic (taste like homemade so you don't get burned out eating out) meals in the Clairemont, Kearney Mesa, Convoy areas near the hospital. When I get time, I'll suggest some of those or, if you want to know before I get to it, prompt me.

    I hope all is well!

We have had a big set back in his progress. He had to have intestinal surgury on Thursday last week to remove a lot of dead small intestines and part of his colan. So far he is recovering as well as can be expected from that. My wife is currently in the hospital again, but should be released tomorrow.
    May be here into november

    Update:

@Cfincke Junior and Family need your thoughts and prayers the next few days. Baby is being air-transported to a children's hospital back home in Texas and Mr. and Mrs. @Cfincke are driving his rig and all their stuff back home. He loaded up a few things he was storing in my garage and they hit the road tonight. Safe travels, guys.
