That price is great. Typical US win. LOL. Best I can find is $270 here in Canada.

My single disk player didn't work.
Found a used 6 disk but it wouldn't load or eject the CDs. And the Volume knob was erratic It was 25$

Then I found a 6disk that was only used for 3 months before he took it out and packed it away. 40$

So I plugged it in. No sound.
So after taking it all apart I was able to make a working radio.
Took the front plate off the new one and took the CD player assembly out and put it in the other radio.

Now it looks and functions perfect. And I can load and eject all 6 disks no problem. Still have the factory clear plastic on it and the ( incert one disk at a time) sticker.

Had a mechanic friend over and we pulled the front wheels off. Checked all ball joints, linkages etc. Greased all nipples. Sprayed Fluid Film over parts that might squeak. Bent backing plate behind rotor to see if that's the cause of the mystery rattle. Decided I'm not going to bother with replacing anything extra when I do the 5100 install. Everything seems good for now. Since I'm sticking with Bilstein's recommendation of not going higher than 1.6" on the front, my friend says I shouldn't need to worry about anything. In his words "If it ain't broke, don't replace it"

Just keep an eye on those LBJ’s. If they snap, it won’t be the only thing that breaks.

I saw a first gen Tacoma lose a wheel on the freeway yesterday. I saw the tire rolling toward the center divider, looked around and saw this guy holding the steering wheel with his right hand and his left arm was still resting in the window. He looked far too calm to be skidding towards the shoulder on his driver side brake rotor while it sprayed a stream of sparks 20 feet long. It was a thug life moment.

I went back by about ten minutes later and wanted to pull over to help him out but he abandoned his truck.

Oh yeah, I'll be keeping an eye on them. They're in excellent condition though. No tears or excessive wear on the boots, zero play in them. My friend figures there won't be any problems with the 5100's since I'm not going up that high.

Good practice. You don't want them looking like mine, at least my driver side. I'm not driving anywhere far or fast until I get around to that. When the boot popped it shot grease on my coilover and frame. Looks like when you step on a ketchup packet.

    !Warning!

Noob about to ask all the annoying questions you hear all too often. In from TW and trading my 03 taco for an 06 tundra either tomorrow or Tuesday after work. So naturally I've been surfing the site but still have some burning questions.

What type of lift is most popular here and how high? On TW it seemed to be OME suspension, 2 - 3 inche's lift.

Are Tundra leaf springs weak like Tacomas? I'd like to eventually lift my truck with some nice shocks and coilovers. Not sure if I should stick with stock leafs and progressive aal or new leaf pack.

What's the typical tire size y'all like to run? I was thinking a 33.

Anybody supercharger their 4.7L? Do they even make those sc's anymore?

5100’s seem to be the most popular. OME makes a good kit as well. Toytec, Fox, king, radflo and icon make 2.0 and 2.5 coilovers. Most are 2-3”. There are a few 4.5-6” drop bracket kits available as well. I will personally go with icon 2.5 front and rear with a Deaver leaf pack.

The leaf springs seem to hold up well over time. There are a few aal options and fewer leaf pack options.

Most stick to 285/70r17’s(33’s) but few have fit 35’s with a 3”. Tubbing the firewall is almost necessary for 35’s unless you go with a drop bracket lift. Regearing with anything larger than 33’s is a good idea.

If I recall correctly, 00-04 could be supercharged and had a kit but the vvt-i engins(05-06) wouldn’t work. Every once in a while a 4.7 sc will pop up for sale but has quite a few miles on them by now.

06 Tundra motor is possible to supercharge but it was never done on those motors from factory. I have seen two trucks make it happen, I wouldn't bother unless you have cash to burn and the kind of engineering brain that can figure it out without anything to reference.

Rear springs are pretty stout on the Tundra. Add a leaf and retain the overload is an option if load matters, there is a heavier duty add a leaf 3 pack too. If load doesn't matter your decision between a 3 pack and a full new set comes down to what you want to pay for.

Icon extended coilovers and upper arms from Camburg or Total Chaos are as good a combo as you can get without going into long travel money. If you have 4WD look into CV boot mods and keep the inches of lift conservative. If you just want a bit of lift and don't want rebuildable coilover responsibilities, there are several lift shock options and OME has lift springs as well.

05 and 06 are great years, good choice. You'll be very happy. Make sure the timing belt/water pump job gets done and do all your maintenance before doing mods.

Thanks for the good info! I don't plan to do any mods for the next year or so while i pay the truck off except im going to buy some 3rd gen taco wheels and tires with low miles. Because the tires on the tundra now are street tires and low on tread. I want some ATs

Do tundras tend to lean like tacos? When you lift the front do you typically need a slim spacer like 3/8" for the driver side to counter a lean due to the driver, battery and fuel tank being on the same side like tacos?

We don't get that taco lean, at least I don't have it and haven't heard of anyone else getting it. Probably because of the root of taco lean- in Japan the driver sits on the other side and balances the truck. Tundras are American.

Had mechanic put 5100’s on all 4’s. Front shocks utilize existing coils. Had them set one notch up from stock. Backs are non adjustable, although I did get some lift out of the backs as it takes more height to attach the trailer. Maybe a half inch?

Truck handles nicely. Firm and ‘sporty’ response on road. Never did much off road other than alot of flat sand beach driving in the years past. Haven’t tested 5100’s off road yet.

Been running 285/75/r16 Michelin LTX M/S 2 for 14 years. Very slight inside rub. Less rub now with new shocks height and alignment.

My original rear leafs are holding pretty good after 17 years of towing and hauling payloads in bed. The 1st Gens carry more payload than the newer gens. They ride better too.

Your best bet is to keep things as stock as possible on the suspension, otherwise you will start to mess things up and cost yourself mucho $.

Take care of fluids changes, and timing belt every 90k and she will love you long time!

Fabricated a stone guard mesh out of some galv 1/2” x1/2” hardware cloth spray painted black. This is a proto type before I use a nicer material (stainless steel 1/4”x1/4”) if I so decide to do it? The proto type is slightly tension fit with strategic flexible adhesive applied on the back side of bumper. All free materials that were laying around. Gonna live with it and see if it grows on me.

Started shopping around for shocks. Gotta make 1 more call then I'll order the parts.

Also, started eyeballing new headlight assemblies. This set is about the same cost as adding OEM style from RockAuto. Not sure about the quality though or how they'll work with the LED bulbs I want to swap to. I do think they'd look pretty sharp with my white truck and the blacked out badges I plan to do. :D

Those look cool! Ebay has some nice selection on lights these days. My side blinkers are cracked and water gets in there. I drilled some weep holes to help drain them and it works well. I cracked them installing the new head light assemblies a few years ago while doing them on a very cold day (mistake). Oh well. Would love to see your pictures once installed.
