I'm starting this today the 6th. I'm doing both challenges. You can break up the reps throughout the day if you need just get em done. Who's with me!?!?

All righty. I want to start a weight lifting regimen to build up some muscle and start burning fat. Right now I have to pairs of dumbells, 5lb and 15lb.

I plan to buy a power rack, bench, olympic bar and about 300lbs of weights to start. Maybe some dumbells as well.

What do you guys suggest for a routine/regimen to do 3 times a week with that kind of a set up to maximize fat burning? I'll be supplementing with body weight exercises, swimming, running, cycling and rucking on non-weight days.

Anyone use NoBull training shoes? I’m lifting heavy enough now that I need good flat training shoes. Thinking about getting a pair.

Funny you mention that, I’ve been looking at them since my regular flat soles gym shoes are crapping out on me.

If you get some before I do, let me know how they do. I’ll do the same

I’d do a full body workout 3x a week, focusing on the big three (I prefer big four) squats deads and bench. (I would include standing overhead pressing) and maybe a few accessory exercises (barbell curl, close grip bench for triceps, calf raise, etc) once a day.

Shoot for strength. 5x5 would be a good set/rep. Can change it up though to fit your needs

Just found this thread. For the past 5 months Ive been hitting the gym hard. Ive been hitting the gym before work (4:30am, 5 days a week). I can definitely see a transformation with the right diet and supplements.

Just decided on Reebok speed TR’s I have a narrow foot and these were a close contender to the adidas samba. Clincher was how freaking stable these MF’ers are the closest sneakers you can get to a lifting shoe without the heel lift. Have yet to squat/deadlift in these, but so far they’re impressive. Try a pair on and see what you think.

I ordered the NoBull and received them Wednesday. I have not worked out in them yet but wore them yesterday to break them in. The fit is good. Kinda have a high side on the opposite of the arch that was annoying at first. Seem like a solid shoe.

Age is catching me, slowed down a wee bit. My wife has done yoga for years and I always dismiss it. We did goat yoga when we had family in town recently, and although not much yoga, still fun. Thought it was bullshit at first...

I have probably had 12 pairs of these, 3 currently. Jordan Trunner LX. They are very good workout shoes. Can’t say enough about them.

    Those look comfortable!

I’m always leery about squatting/deadlifting on foam soles. Way too much instability when lifting 500+ lbs. That’s why I’d rather a general workout shoe with a solid flat rubber sole or barefoot if I’m not using weightlifting shoes. Just me though

Weight set is in. Figure gym is 90% done. Just need some dumbells, kettle bells and medicine ball.

Power rack with pull up bar, bench, 310lbs of weight, treadmill, indoor bike trainer, punch bag off camera, jump rope, resistance bands.

    Clean and jerks
    Snatch pulls to hold
Snatch grip deadlifts from a 2" platform
    Front squats
    Romanian deadlifts

Some thoughts from those with shoulder pain issues. I have been going through a lot of shoulder pain lately. About 6 months or so. Sometimes pulling a shirt off or lifting my elbow horizontal above the shoulder is so painful I cant stand it. I dont want to miss workouts and am afraid of going to the Doc because I fear surgery is an option but I cant afford the down time. I recently did shoulder presses with 45lbs in each hand. It hurt but I was able to push through it. Then about 2 days later the pain was nearly gone. I am baffled why pushing weights reduced the sharp pain. There is still a slight pain but its minimal and doesnt slow me down. Any ideas?

Mine does the same thing when my bursitis flares. Hurts for a few days then stops. Doesn't hurt too bad working out either. Not sure where your pain is but mine is in my deltoid most of the time.

Finally making progress on getting back to doing 3 sets of 12 reps of 225lbs on the bench press after hurting my shoulder a year ago. I'm at 3 sets of 8 with 4-minute rests; once the reps are at 12 again, I'll work on bringing the rest time down. #feelsgoodman

You can get a book on Amazon called "Becoming a Supple Leopard: The Ultimate Guide to Resolving Pain, Preventing Injury, and Optimizing Athletic Performance" by Dr. Kelly Starrett. The title makes it sound all Granola-ish but there's nothing about aligning chakras or only doing lifts when Mercury aligns with Pluto. It's basically an encyclopedia for, well, "Resolving Pain, Preventing Injury, and Optimizing Athletic Performance." You just look up what seems to be hurting and the dude walks you through steps on how to fix it and what you probably did to screw it up in the first place.
This book & Starting Strength by Rippetoe and always within arms reach when I'm out lifting.

I get it and agree. Been a minute, if ever since doing the kind of stuff you and that dinosaur guy do. But at my age, and injury level, just do what I can do. Sadly, I may or may not go to a gym with lots of purple now due to a budget reduction suggested by the wife... It’s a good thing I get up at 3 a.m..
