While that being true, people like to separate the 07-13 from 14-present. I’ve even heard generation 2.5.

Saw you posted this on Tundra tuning. I swear the people that responded are retarded. One guy says he’s never even heard of anyone calling them that? Really? Bag of dicks. The only reason I’ve ever called it a 3rd gen was because others have, and the body style it is quite different 14 and up. I more think of it as 2.5.

It's just been easier to differentiate the current platforms by saying 2nd or 3rd. I guess we don't have to worry about it until the "real" 3rd Gen comes out though. :p
    I do like 2.5.......that works.

A google search for “tundra tuning” turns up zero websites for this name. Post a link, please.
Or if this is a faceplant or other social media mindfuck site, never mind

12+ years seems like a long time for a single generation of any vehicle. In the end, we consumers get to decide what it's called out here in the real world. My guess is that considering '07-present as a single generation helps mask the lack of updates between Gen 2 and 3.

Yes we can call our 2nd generation trucks whatever we want, but that doesn't change the fact that there are no generations beyond Gen II yet.

Hahaha faceplant is where it was!

I use Facebook because it helps me stay in touch with my family that is widespread across the United States. It also was a great avenue to stay in touch and invite my mother’s friends to her service. I’m grateful for that.

It's likely everyone in lower management and line staff agree. Middle managers are trying to please upper management and tow the company line which doesn't address generational nomenclature.. and back in Japan, they catch wind of it and think... What are these crazy Americans talking about? Lol

Again, while it may be their stance, there is a clean break at 2014. You can easily tell anything made after 2014 from anything made from 2007-20013. Same with the break between the Gen 1 and Gen 2. I have heard this argument before about there being no Gen 3. But seeing my Gen 2 sitting next to a 2014+ - they don't look much alike at all IMO. I'll still call 2014+ a Gen 3.

Regardless of looks, I believe the platform is the same and thus both are Gen 2. Changing the body style, etc. is just cosmetic. Good be wrong, but that is why I believe they are calling gen 1 and 2 only and no 3.

Toyota knows that a cosmetic 'refresh' does not constitute a new gen.

I'd say they really got some mileage out of that platform. o_O Jk. The break between 1st and 2nd is huuuge compared to the difference between 2nd and "3rd". I can't tell 'em apart at a distance like a 1G vs. 2G. :notsure:

Understood, but for the general public - what separates things is how they appear to the eye. Ram HD trucks are a good example. 4 distinct body styles - that is what separates the Gens for the most part.

The post 2014 Tundra's are fundamentally the same as the pre 2014 Tundra's. An appearance change doesn't warrant a "new generation" IMO.

Negative...there are significant differences in the various generations of Ram's, especially so when discussing the present generation and the previous generation.
