I have an Auburn limited slip and don’t want to pay the 9 quoted shop hours. Anyone pull this off?

My mechanic gave me an estimate of 4-5 hrs. He wasn't looking in "the book" when he said that but that's what I recall.

Well at least I would feel like it was a deal if it was half the hours. Maybe I should ask another shop before I get too dirty

It's not something I'd do myself but I'd definitely get a couple estimates.

Pull the axles and diff “pumpkin” yourself, take it to a gear shop to get the LSD installed in the “pumpkin” and set up again. If you’re not regearing, labour should be pretty reasonable, as it’s pretty quick to set the backlash the same as it was, and confirm good gear tooth contact pattern.

Then reinstall the “pumpkin” into your axle housing.

Of course, you’ll want to make arraingements with the gear shop ahead of time. Somewhere like the Gear Center.

Sometime i will be doing gears and auburn soon, just thinking of a master plain to get it by the wife. Just going to pull the pumpkins and have my local drive-line shop shim it. Hopefully it will be under $2,000 for everything

I got it done in January where

    1. No one has money to spend
    2. Distributors are pushing deals to survive
    3. Shops want to keep cash flow positive

Limited slip differential? Gets rid of one wheel peel! Tundras have the ‘electronic lsd that doesn’t seem to work at all on my truck. I have to put it 4x4 to get moving from my driveway all winter :anonymous:
