I just sold the equivalent Ram 3500. My son actually liked to drive it despite its massive existence.

I had a new generation Tacoma (2016) and it sucked bad. The dog of dogs at all times except wide open throttle.

I just got back from looking at several Jeep Unlimited Rubicon’s. I think I’ll drive out their tomorrow and see what I can buy one for.

6sp manual solved that issue for me. Still isn't as good as the 5.7 though.

Just bought my Wife a Jeep earlier today - man she loves it! It’s a 2011 JK Sahara with 65k on the clock. Kids are older now so she’ll use it to run around town in and go to the gym. Came with both hard and soft tops.935F8EB7-6239-405B-B9F1-BC36E5D40CB0.jpg

Initially was thinking 4Runner as well. Not sure how pricing compares, probably not too far off.

Unless you are getting it for the interior features/comforts you don't need a Rubi unless your son does a ton of heavy off roading. The Wrangler Sport is one of the most off road capable stock vehicles out there. When I got my first one I was shocked at what that thing would go through 100% stock. The only difference mechanically between the Sport and Rubi is the axles and the Rubi comes with lockers and push button sway bar disconnect. If this vehicle is going to spend most of it's time on pavement save the 20K and go with a Sport.

    Well... Sorta.
Rubi has 4.10 RP, electronic lockers, 4/1 roctrac tcase, dana 44 front and rear, larger ring gear, sway bar discos, 2inches of additional springs, both tops, power inverter, and higher interior electronics minimums.

    Sport lacks all of these.

You can build it cheaper, but after labor and tax, etc...

Just a new tcase will run 6-7k (Atlas or why bother) RP change x2 $1500 2 inch spring lift $650 plus labor. We haven't even swapped diffs yet..

The Rubicon is a very nice package for the guy that doesn’t want to go over 35’s and re-gear once.

FYI, my Atlas II 4.3 with HD outputs was 2250.00 to my door.

You sir, got a good deal... They seem to be hovering in the mid 3ks at the moment, to say nothing of the install costs, etc.

California everything is almost 10% taxed... It gets silly quick.
I went to superior 4.88 and with 35 mtrk and she was fine around town but the highway was slightly higher rpms and steep grades weren't fun at all. I don't know.. I need more performance and room inside now.

Jeep guy here. Love Jeeps, but I will NEVER buy another one made by Chrysler. Their electronics suck. I just got rid of my 2005 LJ because the computer brain (PCM) has a major flaw that can't be fixed and is on longer manufactured, and parts cannot be obtained to rebuild them. So WHEN it goes you either have to do a V8 swap or it becomes a very expensive paper weight. Plus the new Jeeps are ungodly expensive and certainly not worth their hefty price tag. I will, however, eventually buy another CJ (pre-1987 Chrysler) and built it up. Ultimately a CJ8 Scrambler with a full hard top, V8 auto with A/C and D44 axles.

JEEP stands for Just Empty Every Pocket.

Buy him a bucket 4WD or AWD pickup for the winter that he could also use when he goes out to do side jobs etc. or when you need him to go to HD and Lowes for you.

I always purchase my Atlas tc from the same vendor, has done me well.

Most of the JK guys here do 5.13 gears. I did 4.88s on my TJ and totally regretted that decision. I now run 5.39s.

In 2005 they combined the ECM and PCM into one 4plug PCM on the automatics and have been having problems ever since. I had to order one from the stealership at $1550 (any other PCM costs in the $300 range) only to be put on a waiting list for a month before it came in. That waiting list now is indefinite because they no longer make or rebuild those PCMs. This was a culmination of months of research and hair pulling. I'm done with Chrysler. Period.

I have used aftermarket ECM/PCM companies to rebuild to spec in the past with great results. Company is in FL.

You are one of the lucky ones. They seem to be hit or miss from all the info I have dug up. There is a company here in Houston that rebuilds them as well and when I called them I was told they don't even take them anymore because they can't get the parts to fix them.
