Started having very strong pain in my stomach Wednesday afternoon, it passed, thought gtg.

Thursday morning at work around 7:30 I started feeling like crap, my stomach was hurting, felt like I was going to hurl.

I left work at 8, just could not do it, came home by 9 I was on the floor in agony. Cold chills, cold clamy skin and sweating by the gallon. Extreme pain in my stomach and lower left abdomen.

I finally felt ok enough to go see a doc and she said its diet related, upset stomach, here take these.

Well I did and the pain only increased. Got to the point that when I tried to drink anything I threw it up, so I could not re hydrate.

Finally at 2am I said no more and drove to the ER.

In the door and in a room in under 2 minutes.

2 nurses in minutes of me getting on the gurny had a IV in me, drawing blood for labs, wanting urine, and getting me hooked up for vitals, damn girls, got a pit crew here.

Doc walked in a few minutes later, told him whats going on, hesaid ok you want something for pain? No not at this time.

Labs come back everything is fine except for kidney function, theres something wrong.
2 bags of saline drip going to get me re hydrated, non narcotic pain med that was awesome, and then I was taken for a ct scan, huh? what?

Get that done back to my room, doc walks in, kidney stone, left kidney, 2mm in size, you will pass it fine, don't see any problems.

Now I have had them on my right side before, just a little discomfort but never like this one. Holy crap I don't want to go thru that again.

Any home by 6, shower feeling pretty good, grab a nap, get my scrips filled and back home a little while ago. Off work resting.

    damn what a night.

Probably because you picked up drinking coffee. Actually I don’t know shit. A while back in my younger days I was going riding quite a lot. Drinking red Bulls, coffee, Gatorade, water. After a long ride I came back and tried to pee. It was the worst pain I had felt in a long time. Hardly anything was coming out. It brought me to my knees. Never felt that problem again. But I did quit drinking Redbull and Gatorade on the regular. Just a thought.

Sorry about your condition and pain, brother. Not sure how I would handle it. Prolly tell doc to cut it off so I don't have to go thru the pain of passing the stone thru my junk. When I started reading your post, thought conclusion would be appendix. Wishing for a speedy recovery.

I hope you feel better soon. I have had a few friends going through it, and having seen them, it is one of my worst fears - Well maybe a few other things worse than that, but it's way up there on the list.
    Anyway, stay strong!

Dude, I can sympathize. 2 years ago, I went through the same thing. Spent 24 hours in a hospital due to the pain. I ended up passing an 8 mm stone on my own about 5 weeks after the hospital incident. Not an exaggeration. My urologist was surprised I was able to get it out on my own. He was ready to get invasive. I was only 42 at the time. Since then, I drink way less coffee and way more water. I have to get yearly checkups including ultrasounds on the kidneys. Knock on wood, I'm doing good so far. Just drink more water and less caffeine. Did the doctor put you on a drug like Tamsulosin to dialate everything down there (widens the tubes for easier passage)?

So the times it will cause you pain are when: 1 when it moves out of the kidney and into the ureter; 2 when it gets stuck somewhere in the ureter (most likely where the ureter enters the bladder); 3 if it gets stuck where the bladder empties to the urethra, or 4 when it passes out through the urethra. Mostly, the pain is caused when the stone causes a blockage and the kidneys can't empty so it swells up. The Tamsulosin will lessen the chance of that since it causes all the tubes down there to dilate. I never took any of the other stuff after the initial trip to the ER. I just took Tamsulosin up until passing the stone. When it passes, it will feel really weird and you may bleed a little.

Dude, I had a kidney stone a few years back. I don’t know what this mild discomfort some of you have spoken of. Mine was the worst pain of my life. It hit me when I was getting ready for work. I thought it was just gas or something, so I told my wife to go ahead and leave for work, I’d be ok in a minute.
About twenty minutes later, I was in the floor and had to send my son to grab the phone so I could call my wife to come take me to the hospital.
On top of the pain, I had to be thoroughly examined by a bunch nurses and a lady doctor with my wife sitting next to me, in a VERY cold room...

Funny part of the story: My assistant manager (also my closest friend ) had one a couple of months before. He called in from the hospital, and it took him three days to pass it. I kept telling him to come to work, stop being such a bitch. I gave him a ton of crap about it. (In jest)

So, when my wife got back home to get me, I asked her to call him (I could barely talk), and let him know I wouldn’t be making it. I only heard her side of the conversation:

“Hey, I’m taking Jason to the hospital. He’s laying on the floor, and his side is hurting real bad. It started this morning and h-....”
She’s listening for a moment, then looks at me and says “He said to tell you he hopes you have a f-ing kidney stone.”

Well my original post was pretty clear there was no mild discomfort last night but yes the previous ones did not bother me that much.

Your story is funny, yes I laughed at the end and at the same time let me say I feel your pain brother.
