Removed, sanded, etch primed, and herculined (4 light coats sprayed at 8-10 inches) my bumper ends. TRD Pro grille next!

I’m stoked with how it came out!

Same color truck I have, so I like it! The caps look great, they look good with the center section. Nice job.

I just bought the QS grill surround, bulge and pro insert so I may be doing the exact same thing.

Looking good! I also want to do this, was it pretty simple to remove the end caps?

Did you use the aerosol can or a gun to spray?

So the removal of bumper end was a MONUMENTAL pain in the ass. I watched this video to learn how to remove them. https://www.tundras.com/threads/how...per-caps-2017-and-reinstall.9858/#post-161159 Best tip was to use the ass-end of a screwdriver to put downward pressure on the pressure clips.

To prep them, I scuffed them with a 3M pad to get some texture on the smooth surface so the primer would grab. Then I used Rust-oleum Self Etching Primer in Gray. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Ol...f-Etching-Primer-Spray-Paint-249322/202097278
I did two coats of primer to assure even coverage and full grip for the Herculiner. I used Herculiner in the can as is. No spraygun, just patience and a steady hand! It took a can for the front and a can for the back to do 4 coats sprayed at 8-10”. https://www.jbtoolsales.com/herculi...MInJaM-_fb3AIVDIB-Ch3ofAzjEAQYASABEgJO-PD_BwE

Total cost was around $75 and total time was around 4 hours, but I was quoted three hundred to have professionally sprayed. I feel like if you are brave, confident, and uninterested in removing your bumper you could spray right on the truck.

The texture is light rough, like skateboard grip tape, probably equivalent of like a 200-250 grit sandpaper. The durability has been great. I’ve washed it three times since with no peeling! My truck is not garage kept and the sun hasn’t had an impact either. Great for the beach too because the salt water isn’t eating chrome anymore!

Thanks for all the kind words guys! Glad you guys like it as much as I do!

Thanks for the update, I too used that same primer, almost a can for each bumper end front n rear, paint I used was a satin finish krylon paint for metal, believe I did this late summer fall '16 but I didn't do the scuffing of the chrome and now where bugs have hit of rocks hits I have chrome showing, so I need to redo all over again, and I used paint t for plastic for hood buldge and surrounding from bug hits chrome showing, that needs to be done also those were a satin finish

So from what I can gather, the texture of the bed liner makes it less prone to chipping/fractures as the molecular structure adheres to the surface AND to itself. We’ll see how it lasts! I’m hoping for good long term hold! Let me know how yours turns out!

Awesome. Thank you for the write up! Currently trying to decide what to do with my chrome bumpers...
