Read my post #28. You seem to be the only one in this thread that actually thinks about what they've been told and doesn't take it for gospel.

I would like to thank everyone for sharing their views. I'm so over this. Krazie Sj was talking about his Tacoma with a 21 gal tank, well I had a Tacoma for 7 years and thought I had a 18 gal and the low fuel came on with a gal in it (So I thought) and never gave it a second thought. Blessed are the ignorant.

I'm a new toyota tundra world member, at only my second fill up, my truck only have 350 miles. Yes it's 2 weeks old, and first fill up was a courtesy from the dealer. I have a 38 gal. Tank but today it only took 30 gallons to kick off the pump at a Costco station. And display warning showed 50 miles to empty.
So I'm asuming I had 8 gals. In the reserve?
Yes im a little bit confused too. But like most people here. I better be safe having extra gas to empty, than sorry running out of it.

Now the MPG is not the greatest if I only got 12mpg. (City only) Which I knew I would be. I got mud terrains and aftermarket wheels from the dealer, so I guess that affects it too.

Anyways, after winning a lemon law suit, against GM because a defective 2014 silverado, and getting into a toyota world It was the best decision made.
TOTALLY happy with my TUNDRA even though it would be always "BLOOD THIRSTY" 5.7 v8.....LOL.

I have the 48g transfer flow tank. My '15 Pro came with the 26g tank. I'm fed up with jerrycans for fuel and don't want to do that any more. The replacement with the 38g factory Toyota tank, which became available in 2016, costs more.
For me it's definitely worth it. Maybe not for everyone. Also added weight, between the steel vs plastic plus the weight of the additional fuel it's about 200lb

It's truly a 38 gallon tank.. I've had my truck for 2 months and the first fill up only took 30'gallons so the next 4 fill ups I did I drove it on purpose when it said 0 miles " low fuel" and I drove it around for another day!!! And the most my tank took last week was 35 gallons.. which means I still had 3 gallons left or a little less depending on what's in the fuel injectors and all that other stuff.. I won't do it anymore but those of you on your way to work with a 38 gallon tank and don't want to stop cause you're running late, you'll be fine.. you can drive around the rest of the day and be cool...

    I would like to....

But I first would love to know if it'll work lol

Do I need a new EVAP canister? Pump control module? Or is it a pretty simple remove/replace?

Tank being sold comes with in tank pump, which I know is different between the two tanks.

I'm not sure of all that but if you can get it that cheap you could flip it and double your money

I looked up every single part associated with the two different tanks, and 99% of the parts are different. You would basically have to replace everything associated with the tank for the bigger Toyota tank. Fuel pump, charcoal canister, skid plate, fuel neck, lines coming directly out of the tank, etc.

In other words, I'd go with the Transfer Flow. :D

I'd be very leery about using a used tank in my brand new truck. Not sure what dirt or contamination may be inside. Rebuilding a few injectors could eat that savings pretty quick.

Luckily it appears most of the parts listed are included...aside from the charcoal canister which is probably a pretty penny :(

Ill just keep it until a diesel option comes out lol

Not sure if someone else has mentioned it because TL;DR. If your truck is new or your MPG meter has been recently reset, it will take a good while for the computer to "normalize". Also, Toyota is notorious for underestimating Miles To Empty, probably as a cya safety "feature". All that said, yes your tank is every bit as big as they say it is.

Yes, Toyota is just bad about the low fuel light. On my 2016 the light comes on with about 8 gallons left in the tank. The other day my computer said I had 0 miles left and I still drove another 50 miles. When I went to fill up, it only took 32 gallons. My truck has around 7k miles on it, so the computer should have learned by now.

Don't feel too bad though, when I had my hybrid Camry, the low fuel light would turn on when I had over a 200 mile range left. I always new I had plenty of fuel left, but that little voice in the back of your head keeps saying "the light turned on, I must be almost out of gas" but then you go to fill up and find out you could have gone another 240 miles.

The 38 gallon take is great though. When you can go a few weeks without visiting the gas station you don't care what MPG you are getting.

It needs those extra gallons of fuel to keep the pump cool. You don't want to run it down to 1 gallon unless it's your last resort. My 26 gallon tank always takes about 19 to 20 gallons when the low fuel light comes on. You have a longer tank so it needs those two more gallons than mine, as to keep the pump submerged.

I have a 2017 Crewmax w/38 gallon tank and my first fill up was after the light came on, still drove 53 miles to work. The next morning drove to gas station with it sitting on empty and could only put in 30.471 gallons.

You guys still are gaining about 10 gallons over me. When I fill up, I have gone past 0 miles to go and only put in 20 gallons in my smaller tank

Seems that way. I'm averaging 16.7mpg too. I guess I could go around 78 more miles. So, 610 on a tank. Not toooo bad considering.

    Oh one or two.
I have nearly 6 gallons after the hud says 0miles left. I normally full up around 1/4 tank but i never get worried if the fuel light comes on i know i can safely get another 40 or 50 miles after the hud says 0.
