I'' PM you a link to the waypoints that I set up prior to the run. We have tracks, but Jawbone Canyon was kind of a dud. Long, easy, and kind of boring. Thats where I broke my CV so we didn't do any of the technical trails that I had planned for the rest of the weekend.

So I take it that there were no fire restrictions up there? Monache meadow I assume...
Headed up in a few weeks and want to see if I should bring my fire-ring.

Seriously... And now it looks like I'll be in Sequoia the same time that these guys are going up to Mammoth.

Headed up to Mammoth next week to do some hiking and exploring. Hope the Yosemite fire is under control so I can use my Half Dome permits, but not counting on it.

We schedule to Pismo this weekend also but call in late so all the camping spots are sold out.

Thats the hard thing about Pismo! Most of the good places sell out as soon as they open in Jan for reservations!

No story there. I was on flat trail and did a tight turn and I thought I got a rock caught in my wheel. I got lucky because it was the outer that broke and the joint housing that hold the axle hub together was intact. So I removed the whole axle and stuffed a rag in the diff hole to keep the dirt out and finished the trip in 2wd lol

So did you confirm the clicking sound was coming from the axle? Did the clicking go away when you removed the axle?

Zac posted a pic of the axle and bearing all over the ground lol I'm transferring stuff to my new laptop; when I'm finished I'll do a photo dump

I turned the corner and heard some clunking. It sounded like I had a rock bouncing around in the wheel. I got out and looked but I didn't see anything. Drove another few yards and kept hearing it. I had zac listen while I drove forward and turned the wheel and stuff. We figured the sound was coming from the drivers side. My CVs were making clicking sounds in Big Bear when I was hung up on rocks and the wheels were fully drooped. But when I drove home they were silent. So right away I suspected my CVs. When I grabbed the axle on the drivers side and wiggled it, it was super loose and sloppy in the outer joint. I cut the boot off and the balls fell out along with the cage, which was broken into 4 or 5 pieces. So the axle shaft with the star on the end was just bouncing around inside the joint housing. I removed the two spindle bolts, pried the axle assembly out of the diff with a pry bar, stuffed a rag in the diff hole, and drove off.

I'll start carrying the outer joint housing with me until I get a spare axle. If the outer breaks you're good. But if the inner breaks you can remove the whole thing and place the joint housing in the spindle to hold the hub bearing together and drive out in 2wd. Once I get a spare axle, I'll just replace the whole thing on the trail. I should be able to do it in under an hour; it's only 3 bolts.

Awesome Dude !!! Thanks for sharing, Love that pic of the swirly clouds at sunset or maybe it was sunrise over the mountains. I could stare at that type of scenery all day.
