Fixed a couple of typos in my original post, damn auto corrrect! I bought the truck on 4-22-18. I have an appointment to bring it in on May 18 to have it checked out. I assume that if the notification in the display is not showing when it goes in for service they will tell me that it is operating normally and send me on my way. I will take a picture of the message if/when it happens again. I will keep you posted.

I wouldn't sweat it. It's a computer issue, and a minor one at that, it just sounds like they can't get the part right away. Modern trucks of all stripes have issues like this. My previous truck (2016 Tacoma) had to go in twice, once to have a seatbelt sensor replaced, and the other time to have a wiring harness replaced. These were both things that effected the SRS system. You'd probably be fine driving your Tundra until the part comes in, but in the event of an accident, the airbags might not deploy.

So I got my truck back yesterday, they replaced the front sensor behind the Toyota emblem. What was told was that this pre-collision sensor is a new item on the Tundra and actually the sensor itself is a new piece. They use them on the other Toyota vehicles but this one is made specifically for the Tundra. The dealership did say they were having some issues with them but not enough to do a recall on them. He said a lot of times when the sensor is malfunctioning its because the owner has lifted the truck. What the said was that there are three sensors on the truck.....two in the front and one in the back. They all align together and when one is off, it throws the system off and that's when you start getting the error messages.

Again this is what I was told.

Yeah the whole lift thing causing it is bs(I know you are just going off what they told you). Dealers local to me: Cavenders(where I bought mine), Red McCombs, and San Marcos all have lifted '18s on their lots. Lifts are not causing the issue in my opinion. It is a combination of a faulty sensor and/or software.

So i took my truck in again after the so called "re-calibration" didn't work, the service tech told me that the part was already ordered for my truck after my last visit, i guess they knew the re-calibration would not work and knew i would be back, i hope this takes care of it for good.....fingers crossed

Just picked up my new truck last week. 400 miles. Have had the problem once. Probably a dumb question, is the PCS sensor you guys are referring to - the one behind the Toyota Emblem on the front grill? And does replacing it fix the problem for sure? I know they updated the airbag software a couple of days ago when I had it in for running boards. Thanks

Yes, its behind the emblem, i have had mine replaced and 2000+ miles and only once my "pcs unavailable" light went off during a heavy downpour. I know others who had this issue had other parts/sensors replaced , seems like its not just one thing causing it, but i'm just speculating.

    I have the same problem.
I just purchased 2018 Tundra last week. About 300 miles on it same message pre-collision malfunction. I tried to use the cruise control it ranged from 75-86 mph repeatedly...I never owned a Toyota prior. I don't need this headache...

Well unfortunately the problem is back, worse than ever.. The PCS light comes on and off constantly, adaptive cruise useless. I am supposed to talk with the service rep. next week, he is on vacation. I am about to get really shitty over this....

Interesting reading here. I am baffled why the Tundra is having this issue. The Toyota safety sense has been out for a couple of years now. My wife has a 2016 Lexus ES with 35,000 miles with no issues. Safety sense system has been terrific. I have had the brake warning light come on twice. Both times it was a valid warning as I was closing in quickly to a stopped vehicle in front of me. I was approaching a freeway on ramp at speed. Once I turned onto the on ramp the warning went away. Interesting if Toyota used a different sensor/vender for the sensor and camera, than they did for the Lexus. If so, I hope they clean this up quickly.

I replied to a couple other threads about this. It's not like Toyota to have this issue going on for so long. Mine started this week and is going in for service in 2 days. Has anyone else had the PCS setting disappear? My light stopped going off today but the PCS settings disappeared as well. There is supposed to be a on/off setting under the -metered setting controls. It was there when I first got the truck now it is gone. I asked this in another thread. Can the PCS software get uninstalled somehow? My light is not flashing from on to off anymore but the PCS doesn't kick on either like it used to. It hasn't alerted me all day.

I took mine thursday to dealer. They kept it for 2 days and resumed the pre collision radar per Toyota. They have no idea if this worked and left my service ticket open for the next week. 6th time to dealer for the pre collision light coming on say system is off. Help if you know anything.

Only advice i can give is to take pictures, lots of pictures , when the light comes on the dash snap a picture, when it goes off snap a picture , that way u can show the service manager that the light comes on and off at random times regardless of weather , etc. , they only started taking me seriously when i showed them that this wasn't some isolated incident , i even had videos (just be careful, i dont condone recording and driving) but i was desperate for a resolution so i wanted all the proof i could gather to prove my case ....good luck

Well today June 14, 2018, I had more issues with my pre collision light. I had it in the dealership for the 6th time and they kept it for 2 days. (Been going to dealer with this problem since may 10th) They held last weeks ticket open to see if the light would come on again. Well Wednesday both time I drove it, thursday- both times I drove it. This morning went out to go to town and totally dead. Key fib will not unlock doors no lights, no lights come on in the interior or dash. Called dealer and Corp contact. Waiting for tow. I have given them videos and they jerk me around. Help!!!!!

Well, I can add my 2018 Platinum to the list. I was at 1400 miles. I was about 140 miles away from home when I got the first "Pre Collision System Malfunction, Contact Your Dealer" error on the dash display. I was worried it might throw the truck into limp mode, but thankfully it didn't. It seems as if this is a fairly regular problem based on the numerous mentions on this forum. Might be time for Toyota to issue a recall. The most annoying part is that the message basically takes over the display, and you can only get rid of the message momentarily. So, I had no real dash information for that trip home, and now for the 10 days until my appointment.

Happened to mine right around the 2,000 mile mark. I'm also getting a "Lane Departure Assist System Malfunction" but the PCS Malfunction is now on every time I start the truck and it goes away for 2 minutes at a time max. Very irritating. The LDA Malfunction comes on about every other time I drive it. Going to try to get it into the dealer soon.

My '18 Limited just started with this crap, just under 6k miles. Pre-Collision Malfunction, Trailer Break Malfunction, and Start-Drive Control Malfunction all cycling on the display at all times. BSM system seems to be working, but RCTA does not work. It started yesterday, still doing it today. I'm going to be bringing it to the dealer.

They know. They redesigned the PCS sensor to be more waterproof. So there is a new part out there.

Add me to the list as well. My new truck is 3 weeks old and the PCS light has come on randomly a few times now but no error code on dash. It locks up and you’re not able to reset it until you turn the truck off and back on again. Took it to the dealer for the first time yesterday and they hooked it up and it’s showing a loss of communication error code. They are waiting to hear from a master tech from Toyota corporate to see how to address the problem and get me back in to fix it.

Meanwhile I contacted Toyota and explained my concerns of buying a new truck and having to be in the shop the first 3 weeks with it. They opened up a case # for me. I would highly recommend anybody having these issues to do the same so it can be documented. I hope they can get this issue fixed soon!! I like the truck but feel like you shouldn’t have to deal with this trouble in a new purchase. I’ll update on this thread if/when it gets resolved.

After the redesigned sensor and harness were installed it hasn’t done it since on mine. Knock on wood.

That’s good to know!! The tech at the dealer said it could possibly be the camera under the rear view mirror loosing connection, and temporarily causing the error code “communication disconnect “. I just hope they don’t have to start tearing into everything. it’s concerning that it’ll cause more problems.

So more information on my situation...

Since I have a Pioneer NEX head unit with the iDataLink Maestro, I was able to see what the code is. It's a P0705, which points to the transmission range sensor. This makes sense as none of the gear icons are lighting up on the dash, and it explains why the backup camera won't come on when I shift to reverse. I cleared it last night from the head unit, but it came back on within a mile of driving this morning.

I am going to make an appointment for service. What has been the normal experience with warranty work at the dealer? Should I still have to make an appointment and wait until they have time? The truck only has 6k miles on it. Has anyone been able to bring their truck right in or does everyone wait just like scheduled service?

Usually the master techs work on the big issues. So you might have to or actually want to wait for one to be available. For mine, I had to schedule appointments so the regional tech from corporate could be there to look at it.

So I just got back from the dealership. They're blaming it on the ODB2 connection for the iDatalink Meastro unit. They said the newer vehicles' can bus is much more sensitive than in older vehicles. They said they disconnect it and cleared the codes and drove the truck around, codes didn't come back. I start the truck up to leave (with the ODB2 connector still disconnected) and the codes come right back. They tell me that the iDatalink Maestro potentially damaged the can bus or some other device connected to it. They won't cover it.

The iDatalink is designed as plug-and-play and won't void the warranty. I had to flash the unit with specific firmware for a 2018 Tundra. I think I just got the run-around. I am bulls**t right now!!!

I'm going to reach out to Directed (manufacturer of the iDatalink module) and see what they say. I'll probably post a new thread to see how many people with 2018 Tundras are running the Maestro unit and if they're having any issues. So many aftermarket products tap into the can bus. This is ridiculous.

Whelp, I figured it out with the help of the forums. Thank god for forums and the wonderful people that post in them! It all came down to a bad LED reverse bulb and a blown fuse. One of the first modes I performed was LED interior lights and reverse/cargo lights. One of the reverse bulbs must’ve gone bad (haven’t tested them yet) and blew the 7.5 amp BKUP LP fuse under the dash on the drivers side. Apparently this fuse handles the backup lights, transmission range sensor/neutral safety switch, and the gear indicator in the cluster. I popped the halogen bulbs back in and replaced the fuse, no more warnings on the dash and the backup cam comes on in reverse. What a relief!!!
