Update - So after escalating things to the Manager of the Service Department, they think they have the isolated the issue to the left rear pinch weld. My truck is now at a body shop and they are taking things apart. I hope to have an update in the AM.

    Update #6,2434

Spoke to the dealer today and the pinch weld was not the issue. We are now back to square one. Monday, the dealer is removing the bed to check the frame and bushings. I will not see my truck until late next week. Assuming they are able to resolve the creaking. Pretty shitty for a brand new truck with 700 miles on it.

What is the recommended torque for the bed anyways?

My 18 bed creaked like crazy. I could get in my bed and make it creak by just moving around. Ended up being the bushings between the frame and bed, frame painted shiny, and the bushings got painted as well causing the noise. Almost completely gone by itself and I’m at 2,200 miles. Tried to get a pic, one of the bushings is circled.

I would not let them pull your bed for that, they can lube them and verify. If it is, don’t rush and pull the bed, it could very well make other issues, ride it out for a few k miles. Once the paint wore off the bushing, mines fine. If no luck, no loss, still Toyota’s problem.

They are beautiful. Here are a few more of mine. Update #7,422

Spoke to the dealer today and they did not remove the bed of my truck but began lubing the springs and bushings between the frame and the bed. The kicker is they now think the noise is heat related so they are going to keep my truck out of the sun and see if it goes away. Like many of you are thinking after reading this, I call BS. So every time it gets warm I can expect creaking? No thanks. I pushed back and they are now focused on the lubrication as the next steps.

    Update #7,462

Spoke to the Dealer and a rep from Toyota Corporate and the bed creaking I am experiencing is a known issue within Toyota and they are still trying to determine a resolution. To date, Toyota has had my truck for a week and the end does not seem near. The positive side is that Toyota at least identifies that there is a problem and is trying to determine how to solve it. I have made the case for a new truck but with the upgrades I have done, I would lose a fair amount of cash. I will continue to update the group as everything plays out.

imo not worth trading. all trucks squeaks and creak. what if you get a new one, lose your mod and it still creaks ? try spraying WD40 on those bed bushings as @Vizsla pointed out. You might be surprised.

Been thru all that. The creaking on my truck is so bad you could hear it a block away. Trading my truck is the very last resort, and only if the dealership eats it.

    Almost Final Update, Hopefully-

Spoke to Toyota today on-site and the dealer said that my creaking issue is a known issue by Toyota. The issue lies with a small, thin metal plate that is welded to the under side of the bed. The dealer attached a recorder to the truck and replicated the sound. A Master Tech from Toyota corporate is coming out Monday to check on a fix but the Service Manager is convinced that my truck bed will need to be replaced all together since the part in question is welded to the bed. Needless to say, I am three weeks out before I get my truck back. If the bed is replaced, it needs to be painted/color matched, then installed. The service manager let it slip that there have been numerous issues identical to mine reported to Toyota over the past six weeks and he expects the issue could even me more widespread. I have to admit, I am damn impressed with my dealer for being so thorough and that we are close to getting everything resolved but damn, I miss my truck.

I tell ya, my patience has been tested for sure. Luckily the service manager has been amazing. He did say that from what he was seen, this issue has been primarily late model 2017's and 2018's.

    I can relate....

2018 CM with Rhino liner (dealer did this prior to delivery). My bolts were not covered with Rhino so they removed them. My creaking (actually sounded like klunking) going up my driveway on an incline turning to the right (or left if I was coming the other way) was driving me nuts. Re-torqued my sway bar and u-bolts...still creaking. Then I found another thread on here indicating my bed bolts needed torqued. When I put my torque wrench on 62 lbs/ft I was able to turn them nearly an entire turn. Maybe they didn't torque them correctly. Or maybe the thickness of the liner with the heat wave here (NE PA) made the liner less dense causing my bolts to loosen. Regardless... after I torqued the bolts down again to spec, my creak/klunk is gone. Wish you luck on your truck.

It's somewhat interesting that on delivery of my truck (April) with the weather much colder I had zero sounds coming from the rear of my truck going up my driveway. Only in the past month with the heat up in the upper 90's for days on end did I start hearing it. Got much worse as the month of July went on. Only thing I can think of is the thickness of the liner became more pliable in the heat causing my bolts to loosen.

The bolt issue with GoRhino and Line-X is where quite a few people turn when it is a much bigger issue. I envy the people who had their creaking solved by a torque wrench. #envious

Today I met with my local dealer Service Manager along with a Toyota Tech from the San Antonio plant regarding the issue with my creaking bed. It was determined that my truck was not dipped correctly with the anti-corrosion application and that is what is causing the creaking. I am told it COULD go away with time but Toyota recommended replacing the entire bed. The bed was ordered tonight and it will take 4 weeks (7 weeks total without my truck) for the bed to arrive then it needs to be painted and Line-X added. A whole lot of shit for a truck with less than 900 miles on it. Needless to say, I am not happy. I will be calling Toyota tomorrow to ask for compensation in the form of either a Platinum Warranty Refund or Prepaid Maintenance for an extended period. The bottom line is Toyota needs to make this right above and beyond fixing my truck. On that note, what do you guys think I should ask for?
