2014-2021 Front/Rear Anytime Camera Mod - FRAC Harness

Is it still holding up okay, can you post a pic? I like the flush mount better, but I don't know about the hot glue method.

 

I’ve had my FRAC harness for several months now and I have to say it is one of the best mods for the money you could do. I use it daily for parking and it’s extremely useful there but it really saved me a lot of trouble several times this past week camping in the mountains. Being able to watch the rear camera while going forward tremendously helps lining up a trailer hitch and I was also able to watch the rear camera while driving to the dump station with my grey water tote and saw it pop off my hitch ball on a bump. (!) Without the camera I would not have known what happened and would have had 330 lbs of dirty water rolling away on its own. And getting out of our site navigating trees and signposts checking clearance with the front camera was super helpful. If you don’t have one, and you do truck things with your truck, get one. Toyota should make this a stock feature.

FRAC harness on the way!! For those of you that have purchased one, does it come with a switch or do I need to buy one?

 

Mine Came with 2 switches.
Front & rear camera toggle switch
Vehicle in motion disable switch

 

I am wondring if the existing wiring can be added 2 more cameras for both side of mirrors so you get the 360 view.

Your FRAC Harness kit will include two switches and Bezels. All you need to buy is the front camera.

I’ve received a few inquiries about shipping to Canada. Unfortunately, until my accountant can figure out all the various multitude of Canadian tax laws, I am not able to ship to Canada. Harmonized Sales Tax, Goods and Services Tax, Provencial Sales Tax.... it makes my brain hurt!

Hey man jumping on here from my other thread you commented on.

Here are my additional questions.

1. Through reading the 30 pages on this thread, i have understood that the VIM switch is only used when you want to input an address or access any other feature while driving. If I don’t want this option, I could just choose to not install the switch correct? (Kinda if anxious about messing with the GPS)

2. I am interested in the push on-off button that looks more OEM instead of the rocker switch. I understood that the light will always be on until I press the button to activate the camera. My question is, how would I access the rear camera with this push button? Would i have to press it twice in order to get it to kick on?

3. What is the ETA on receiving the harness currently?

Really looking forward to purchasing this really soon, thanks!

This is the switch I looked into. It’s made specifically for Toyota’s. The one I want would just say “Camera”

Answers numbered below:

1. The VIM Switch is not necessary if you don't want the anytime Menu Control. But just to be clear, the VIM function does not mess with the GPS in any way. The GPS doesn't know anything about the VIM signal. GPS always works when the HU is powered on. The VIM switch simply tells the HU processor that the truck is stationary even while it's moving. This allows access to all HU Menus that would normally be unavailable. If you don't want the VIM function, simply connect the two green VIM wires together permanently and tuck them behind the dash. Then you wouldn't need to install the switch. This way you can always install the VIM switch in the future should you change your mind.

2. The camera select switch is a Single-Pole-Double-Throw (SPDT) switch. It's also known as an On-Off-On Rocker switch, and it allows control of two different circuits with one switch. the OEM-like pushbutton switch you mentioned is only a Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) switch. It is a simple On-Off switch that only allows control of one circuit. If you really wanted to use that type of switch, you could do it, but you would need two switches; one for the front cam and one for the aft cam. You would also need a jumper between the two switches, but I can tell you how to do that if that's what you decide to do.

The Front/Rear Rocker switch mentioned above will also work as it is a SPDT switch. However it needs a larger sized hole than the standard Tundra OEM switch. A few guys have used that switch by enlarging the factory hole or by cutting a new hole to fit.

3. On average, ETA on a Harness after I receive payment is 4 to 10 days. It all depends on if I'm traveling. If I'm on the road it could be closer to 10 days and if I'm home, it's closer to 4 days. This is also affected by your proximity to Texas. I use USPO Priority mail which is 1-3 days of the timeline depending on location.

Thank you very much for your prompt and detailed response! Unfortunately I’m going to have to put this aside for at least a few weeks. Someone backed into the front of my truck and left a nice little dent on my right bumper cap. You wouldn’t happen to know anyone who’s selling one in the DFW area would you?

 

I live in Bozeman MT about 8 hours south of Calgary and 2 hours from Yellowstone Nat. Park. If any of our Canadian members want to have one of these shipped to me and pick it up during a road trip I'd be happy to assist. Love my FRAC everyone with a Tundra should have this.
