Hey folks, I've had my DB SE cover for a while and really like it. I haven't had much time to get out fishing/paddling, but hoping things will relax soon and I'll able to take the kayaks out, but I'm wondering how I should be hauling them. I didn't have a cover on my tacoma and I used one of those cheap bed extenders from harbor freight. Worked out really well, but I pretty much lost the use of my bed because the tailgate was dropped. Preferably, the rack would allow me to throw all my gear in the bed and keep it secured if I needed to stop off somewhere while out.

Couple options I've found so far:
    1. the DB ladder rack mounts. I don't really want something permanently installed like this, so probably not an option for me.
    2. thule/yakima (or one of the others) make a gear track like mount that their kayak rack uprights slide in and lock down. I found a picture of someone who did this on their DB, but I can't find it now. Either way, with two sets of tracks and the matching uprights, crossbars, and boat mounts, I'd be out over $2k. Kinda crazy if you ask me, but I've never been a huge fan of their prices :-D
Anyone have any other ideas or know of someone that's done something like I'm trying to do?

I just ordered a diamondback 120 for the crewmax. I have to MacGyver up a rack as well. I was looking at under cap ladder rack, but I don't like the brackets sticking out. I may buy one set of yakima towers to go over the cab and then diamond back makes a ladder rack for the rear.

When I spoke to DB, they said their ladder rack uprights were meant to stay on the cover after installed. I'm not a fan of something sticking up like that in the back all the time, so definitely looking for something different.

The Thule TracRac SR looks nice, but a bit pricey...I'm thinking the base rails could be cut in half (or more) and attached directly to the DB cover sections. The only main issues I have besides the cost is losing the ability to open the wings when the kayaks are loaded up and the uprights appear to only come in silver (the base is black, which doesn't make sense.)

What brackets are you looking at? I found some at KB Voodoo, but I'd have to find or create some uprights that would work with it and not fall apart at highway speeds o_O

And this would work even if I didn’t put the nose in the open window. I could push it back another foot or so, and still it is solid - two tarp straps it isn’t moving. If you use four, even better of course.
