I travel all around the country with my job, and I have nothing but bad things to say about Google Maps. About 10% of the time it is major wrong! Almost makes me want to get an I-Phone.

My CarPlay on the ilX runs google maps all day. It’s quite intuitive and suggests where I might be going. It has an updated 3d map function and effortlessly shuts off voice nav with a single tap. I can just press the steering control for voice commands and say “direction to dildo factory” and it pops right up. I do miss Waze tho

As anyone gone aftermarket only to go back to their entune setup? I don't care much for the JBL setup, but I see other owners paying a decent amount for them. ...and I wonder why?

I'm aware you can play Google maps nav audio instructions through your CarPlay system. Unless you are jail-broken, however, I don't think you can actually display Google Maps on your CarPlay screen. If I am mistaken, the world would like to know how you did that.

No jail break... professionally installed not sure what they did. Probably has to do with swapping screen out with alpine ilx

That looks like Apple Maps, not Google Maps. They are not the same thing.

Instructions for what specifically? Generally, you can just specify your truck on Crutchfield, select the unit you bought and follow their recommendations. If you want to take advantage of all the unit has to offer, you'll need the iDataLink module which has a connector for your OBDII. Thats how the unit is able to display vehicle parameters.

I placed the order maestro rr, harness, Kenwood 9904s but I have never removed head unit off tundra. Not sure if someone have instructions how to do all work or some write up.
Is it completely plug and play or still need some wire splicing?

There may be such threads. Dunno. There are just too many vehicle/radio/option combinations for any one DIY thread to be much more than a general guideline. Most of us just start ripping things apart. Again, crutchfield is a great resource for technical knowledge, even if you buy your stuff elsewhere. Once you get past your first radio swap, you'll find how easy it is. If you get the right harness as specified by crutchfield very little splicing (if any) is required. Just dig in. Then if you get stuck, post up your specific questions.

Thanks for your input. I'll get back if I come across with any problems.
I do have one question, does SR5 tundra has already installed GPS antenna even if my hu didn't come with navigation since it's basic hu.

Its doubtful your SR5 has a GPS antenna. Even if it does your new setup will come with one. Just use the one that comes with your new HU, regardless. I placed mine under the center speaker grill in my Limited.

Good tip since I didn't know if antenna should be visible (I don't like it) but glad to hear that can be placed in hidden space and still do their job with signal.
I see some people plug existing antenna from vehicle but you stated differently and I may go that route as well.
    Thank you

Google Maps will be usable and able to be viewed through Apple CarPlay in the next few months. Once iOS 12 is released, all CarPlay products will be compatible with Google Maps and Waze. Good News!

Good news indeed! I was at WWDC this year when they announced that Waze would be coming to CarPlay. My life is complete.

Swapping to a kenwood headunit sounds like a great idea. The Bose speakers....not so much. The headunit + idatalink maestro RR can be installed and you can use your OEM amp and speakers and it'll sound much better. Or you can do the kenwood+maestro+amp+speakers/sub and it'll sound incredible. There are a ton of speakers out there that are infinitely better and more affordable than Bose. Check out tech12volts... tech12volt@gmail.com
James has full systems ready to go for your tundra. They can do a mild upgrade right up to premium competition level stuff.

Do the steering wheel buttons still work with this system and how about the dashboard display? Is it still operational?
