I am looking to black out all the badging on my crew max. I do not want to go through the hassle of removing all the chrome emblems and reattaching matte black ones. So my options are plasti dip or overlays. I found overlays for 99.99. I want the option that will last the longest and withstand weather. Thoughts? (Please add pics of your tundra with the option you chose to go with)

My vote is neither. I like the debadged look. But if you want black then dip them, save that $99 for something else. Haven't heard of any issues with dipping them and a ton of guys do it.

Plastidip is typically good for a couple of years when put on properly. Taking the emblems off and putting new ones on is really easy though. 3M makes an adhesive remover that works really well getting the emblem tape and residue off once you get the emblems off. I think I listed the details for it in the 'one line of products' thread in the Detailing section.

Adding the overlays was one of the first mods I did - 2+ years and they still look like they did when I put them one.

My rock warrior only has the 5.7L badges from the factory. all the rest were omitted :)

I didn't know they made overlays. That's super cool. On my Tacoma I used Matte Black Plastidip on the wheels and badges. It worked pretty well. When a wheel would get some rock rash, I'd just peel and re-dip the wheel.

I used the duplicolor version of plasti dip. Cheap and easy. Super easy to remove if you get tired of it (or mess it up).

I used overlays. I don’t have pics but I can take some later if you want. I’m very happy with them.

Neither as well. PD chips and you can’t scrub it when washing/detailing. Overlays look like overlays closeup. Debadging is easy. Only matte black “Tundra” badges now:

Bought the overlays, took me 10 minutes and they look good. Worth the money.

Dipped mine. Been debating taking it off and buying overlays, or debadging it all. Plasti Dip is super easy/quick/cheap and most report it holds up well over time.

I did overlays. Was not comfortable I’d get sharp untextured lines around the letters. Although I used Plastidip on my chrome bumper ends and a exhaust tip and it looks great. 88BAFBD6-F7D4-4B1E-A832-7FCBD45B17B0.jpg2FD67FDA-1985-452A-90EA-5145A09F0416.jpg

cost on overlays and actual black badges is close but I went overlays. my ocd wouldn't work well with me trying to center badges so I went overlays. they look just fine to me and took all of 10 minutes.

Chrome is making a comeback! I say leave it chrome and set yourself apart from the crowd. Saves money too.

I don't know anything about overlays, however it your only doing the badges I highly recommend plastidip. The badges are supper easy and have held up very well. I have a couple photos on my profile. I plastidipped the bumper ends and the entire grille as well. I did all this in 2 different applications. I did the badges & rear bumper ends first to test and see how the color turned out compared to paint and plastic. The badges and rear bumper we a breeze, the front bumpers and grille where a bit more challenging. But i think it looks amazing for $15-$20 and a couple of hours of work, especially on the black truck.

    hard to argue with that.

I'm happy with my overlays but those look fantastic for a lot less $$.

Neither. I bought some 3rd-party ones on Ebay for about $38 shipped. I figured 'why not' and if they were crappy parts, I could just return them or write them off. They were cheaper than the factory and/or overlays and they will hold up better than plasti-dip to washes and waxing.

It turns out that they were very good quality. The iForce and 4x4 badges are metal and the Tundra lettering is ABS plastic. They come with their own sticky backing as well.

Excuse the dirt, but you get the idea:
