2014 CM 30k miles with a 4wheel camper on the back. While driving up some inclines my cruise will kick off sending my motor up to 4000 rpm for a brief period then back to normal. The first time it happened I got worried because we were in the middle of nowhere and thought my truck was going to grenade. Can it be that the heavy load on the back is effecting the cruise control function thinking something is wrong while going up hill? It started happening more frequently as the trip progressed, to the point that I turn it off going up hills altogether. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    Paul

If your towing yes it will shut itself off, and let you take over.
When I tow my trailer I don’t use my cruise.
    Just my opinion.

Normal w most cruise control. If it slows down about 10 mph lower than what it’s set at it’ll kick off. Like lugging up a hill.

My 2007 SR5 never did that while towing my 3-place ATV trailer, but my 2017 Pro does it every time I ascended even the slightest of hills:notsure:. Is it newer programming to shut down the cruise control to save over shifting (heating) of the transmission?

Forward looking camera, Stub Antenna, 3M clearshield. A few other non lifted items.
What speeds are you doing? What is it at the start of going up the hill and what is it when it kicks off? What is the road grade? Elevation?

You have bigger tires on the ‘17?

Does Tow/Haul change anything for the cruise?

What about manually downshifting in “S” mode while on cruise?

It makes total sense to me to have cruise cut out when constant load /throttle position exceeds a certain point, basically forcing the driver to be in control, and hopefully monitor the gauges and even select a lower gear as needed.

70-75 mph, usually mid slope or towards the top of the hill and so far have only noticed it at elevations above 4000ish ft

Utah, typically 4000' to 6000' elevation, yes in tow/haul mode. Of course I am doing 75 mph on I-15, so I just think it is part of the programming trying to save the transmission from overworking. Funny thing is my 2007 stayed engaged travelling the same roads at the same speeds.

Same: I rarely cruise control when towing, especially uphill.

after looking at the manual, it has changed to a 10 mph differential (use to be 5 mph), min 30 mph to set the CC (use to be 25 mph), and min 25 mph to resume (as before)

edit: biggest issue is after 4 mph differential, it kicks out of overdrive or down a gear. that is more annoying than the 10 mph issue.

You read the manual???? haha.. My 07 manual says the same thing although I have used CC when towing a couple time. Not a super heavy load though. CC stays solid.
