Wonder if they were ever trained in some way to shoot through a windshield?
Either way good for him!!! Got the job done.
I couldn’t imagine how high his adrenaline was.

In short, Yes. You lose alot of velocity and you'll likely frag out a few rounds, but the advantages outweigh the cons.
Ideal for rifles, a sheriff and desert storm vet in Montana I think was in a similar situation. He made his patrol car into virtual M1 tank. Isolated highway, TONS of rounds (5.56) downrange. Suspect dead.

After the trial, the second surviving suspect should be buried alive, face down. No excuse for what they did.

Good Job Metro. Poor guy had 20 years in, probably ready to retire in a year or two. Hope he finally got his reports done and went home and gave his family a hug and grilled some ribeye.

The other shootout was in Ok.
    Here's a link with a test.

    https://youtu.be/rSJzbROBYnc

As far as the reload, he dumped alot of rounds. He used the door as cover, and after some fumbling on the reload (understandable) he dumps so more and moves laterally to the brick wall.

    Pretty good.

We simulated drawing and shooting through the windshield in a parked vehicle, but never actually did it. Shooting and driving at high speeds is a whole other ball game. He handled himself very well. Also, I'm sure that officer didn't notice it at the time, but shooting inside a vehicle like that has to be deafening. Outstanding job LVPD.

I remember alot of that stuff on the range... The steering wheel and seatbelt stuff, etc, etc. Sadly half of it probably goes out the window.. No pun intended.

That was like watching a movie, very intense. I realize that officers go through a ton of training but there's no way he was prepared for that scenario, he was extremely calm and concise and it looks like he did everything right to me, I'm not a cop so I can't say for sure though. Amazing work especially under that kind of pressure. He deserves some kind of commendation for sure, he should be very proud of his work as should his whole department.

Saw it last night on FOX and it was amazing. I'm just glad the perp didn't get out shooting as he dropped the magazine and attempted to insert the new mag backwards. Alls well that ends well. Great job LVPD!!!

Firing through your own windshield is nothing new, but body cams are relatively new.

Roll down a side widow and wear hearing protection before you try this (especially important if you plan to fire a rifle).

I wrote the PIO for LV Metro and Sheriff Lombardo wrote me back within 36 hrs of the incident. Just a pat on the back for them, and a hearty thank you for your support, especially when we need it the most kinda response. It's good to put a human face on these incidents for the officers sake.
